BEIJING (Reuters) - A top official in China's space program has set 2024 for the country's first moonwalk, a Hong Kong newspaper reported on Monday, cementing its position as a new space power.

The mission would kick off in earnest next year, the Beijing-backed Wen Wei Po paper said, when China launches an unmanned lunar satellite in March or April to orbit and survey the lunar surface.

"China now basically possesses the technology, materials and the economic strength" to put a man on the moon, the paper quoted the official as saying.

But the moon is ours, there is a flag to prove it. (Or the University of Michigan's I suppose)

The Moon is ours. How many other planets too?

The oil is ours too. We (and the Brits)found it, we invented how to get it out of the ground, we drilled it, brought it up and refined it. The rest of the world should kiss our butts.

China has a chance of putting a man on the moon, though Nigeria probably won't, at least within this century.

Although there is an American flag on the moon, it does not declare that the Moon is American land. The United States should send a new crew to the Moon with a flag, and declare the Moon for the United States. Space could be mainly international, but land (such as planets, moons, asteroids, and even planetary systems) could be owned.

They've sent a man into space and back, a first step to sending a man to the Moon and back.

They would have to send a lawyer, but that would be OK, as they don't have to bring him back.

Europe excluding Russia and the defunct Soviet Union has yet to send a man a man into space independently.

There were other people who discovered oil, one of them being.... China.

Granted the Chinese used oil for lamps, etc. rather than for vehicles and higher technology.
