WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

"Can you narrow that down to WHICH ones you're speaking of?"

Obviously not YOU.

Guess what, that open eyesore is due to BLOOMBERG and his cronies catering to wannabe architects who want nothing more than to build a monument to SURRENDER.
MOST NY'ERS want nothing more built there than what was already there.
The message from MOST NY'ERS is "SHUT UP AND BUILD!"

So don't blame the President for what is a LOCAL ISSUE.

If you look at the total amount of Federal money spent in New York and California and compare it to the amount of money spent in each state in comparison to the amount of taxes raised in each state, you will find that New York and California have a lower return of federal money than almost every other state in the Union, including those in flyover country. The reason they are not whining in the Midwest or particularly in the South East, is they already have their money.

I'm not saying that New York has to get every dollar back. I'm just saying that if you are going to spend anti-terrorism money, you should spend it where you are more likely to stop terrorists. And that is New York City. The fact that NYC gets pennies back on the dollar on money sent to the Feds should convince you that they are not getting more than their fair share.

But that doesn't matter. The Senate has decided that they are going to divide the pie and build anti-tank barriers in cow pastures so some donor somewhere can make a killing on the contract. That's just the way it is. But that doesn't make it right.

Just how much money will it take to make New York secure? Come on you "experts" from the five deranged boroughs, shoot me a figure and be honest.

Then, the rest of the country will decide if it's a good expenditure.

90% of the population in both cities sees the administration as a bigger threat than terrorists so they should feel safer now. Right?

I bet that the "90% of the population in both cities" didn't even vote for Bush period. It's a no-win sitution.

they have basically turned federal homeland security spending - into pork projects for local governments all across the country.

Yeah, cities like New York City are mad their money stream is being cut. Like Hillary said, the money wasn't getting to the first responders in New York.

There are EIGHT MILLION New Yorkers. Can you narrow that down to WHICH ones you're speaking of?

The 7.5 million who re-elected Senator's Schumer and Clinton after 9/11. You know? The same two senators who were most vocal about not getting enough money.

Hey President Bush: Don't even think about another photo-op beside that large open grave in lower Manhattan.

All the more reason for him to go there again. Disjointed liberal scumbags with their Joe Boxer's in a twist like you are highly entertaining.

Twenty years and countless tens of billions of dollars later, that grave will still be open, and people like you will still be blaming us for it.

It's "The Big Dig" all over again.

The document said the region had no "national monuments or icons."

Correct.  The Statue Of Liberty is on the NJ side of Staten Island.  New York uses their side as a landfill.   Not exactly a national monument.

"New York gets about $2 per person in anti-terrorism funds. North Dakota gets about $17 per person."

That is such an incredibley lame argument. The same logic is used by the liberals and others who want to abolish the electoral college (well California has this many people per electoral vote while Wyoming has this many people per electoral vote.) It's also basically the same stuff we hear to justify Al Franken's low ratings (well, who cares what his overall numbers are, he has this rating in this specific market in this age group.)

New York has what, about 30-something million people? As opposed to how many in North Dakota? Instead of the per person garbage, just tell me how much New York gets as opposed to North Dakota. I'm sure it's not comparable.
