One question--did we resolve the issue with the folders?
yes, the feature is in QB itself. That when I used their Browse, I put E drive and it put the file in that CD Burn hidden file. I used to use the zip, but can no longer do that. How annoying.
It will let me make a backup to the C drive or the D drive (I have 2 hard drives), but I want one to send to the accountant that I work with and also want to copy music and pictures, etc.
default location is the C drive, but how silly is that? Dont we do backups in case something happens to our computer? If I click the Browse to change it to the E drive, it tells me that E is not accessible, incorrect function....sigh
There is a Nero shortcut, but I dont see any record of files there to burn?
You'll have to drag and drop those files into the Nero window in order to burn those files to a CD. It's empty by default when you open Nero up.
I am just so clueless with all this. Hum, wish I could figure out how to do that folder thing.
I assume 'E' is the CD drive. My uncle got the same error, because QB won't backup files to a CD drive. My uncle thought it was something wrong with his brand new external CD burning drive, but it wasn't. It's just a "flaw" in QB. You'll have to "backup" to a folder on your C drive and then burn that folder or the files in that folder onto a CD. That's the "workaround" to the "flaw".
when I went to copy music onto a CD, I could see that I transferred something, but when I put it in the computer, since it was not playing in CD player, it looks like they are Windows Media files. How do you get that to play back when not in the computer?
To create a music CD that you can play in your car or home stereo, you must make it an audio CD. Home and car stereo's can't play "Windows Media" files, but Windows Media Player (on your computer) can.
I have been using their program since it was in the DOS version (for at least 16 years now). You would think they could get with new technology. If I am finally getting new technology, they should be compatible too...LOL
OK, so you're trying to burn a music CD, in the burning program the files show up, but afterwards, you can't play back the CD, but the files still show up in Explorer, correct?
Did we get the QB problem more or less resolved--if so, I'll need to post that on the thread...
LOL! That's what my uncle said. He's been using QB for about 10 years now. He got hooked on QB ten years ago from a computer the government let him use, which was a very expensive (at the time) IBM Aptiva.
OH, ok, I just saw that available in Sonic, I think I must have just dragged the actual files to an Exact copy function, but I now see music notes, duh, that would be for music - saus create an audio CD from files on your hard drive or from other CDs
"I think tech support got you going off into a different direction. :)"
Hey, I'm just going by what's available to me...8^)
Yep! "Exact copy" would be called a "data disk", used for backups or as it was in the old days, mirroring your hard drive. That's what you would use for backing up your QB files, or pictures, browser bookmarks, email address book, or mp3 files, etc.
yes, they still show up in Explorer Did we get the QB problem more or less resolved--if so, I'll need to post that on the thread...
so, basic question, I know, but how do I create this backup folder?
It is a pretty user friendly program....except for this small aspect
:-) after hours on end with them, I was just saying ok, whatever to anything they told me... they did tell me to contact Toshiba, which I did not want to do prior to talking to my friend who got the computer for me, being that I am not the employee and all and he bought it for me so to speak
I am too old to really have grown up with computers but really wish I could be more comfortable figuring it all out.
What I'd do is:
-On the Desktop, right-click.
-At the menu, there should be an option called New. Select it.
-In that next menu select Folder. Name it whatever you wish (say, Backup Folder)
-Go into your program and select the Desktop in the save menu.
-Scroll over until you see your folder. Select it.
-Save your work.
-Go into the burning program and create a data CD.
-Move the folder into the correct space.
-If everything's set, start burning.
-After the disc is closed, put it back in and open it under My Computer. Verify that everything's on there.
My dad doesn't bother trying to figure out stuff like burning CD's. He tells me to come over and do it for him. LOL
Unfortunately, QB is not my area of expertise (thanks again BigSky!!)...
The CD problems with the music aren't that uncommon, though.
What I need to know is what's left--so I can update the support thread and keep everyone in the nove...
