The Official Weekend Single's Thread ---May 26 -29 (Memorial Weekend US - Spring Bank Holiday Weekend UK)
Posted by Snugs;proud_yank
This weekend in America is Memorial Weekend a time when Americans honour their military dead.
I HATE those scares...like leaving your purse and walking away. I have done that a few times. My heart leaps right out of my chest.
exactly....and today the park was FULL of busses with High School kids, my mind was wondering with the possibilities, thankfully it was all for nothing
Can you detail what you're trying to do?
In other words, is it possible to elaborate (any info you know on the operating system, software, hardware, is the CD drive in the computer or out, etc. will help)
If I know these things, I can post a thread and ping out--we have some pretty knowledgeable guys on the tech threads. 8^)
Bump-a-roo!
I have both Sonic and Nero for the CD burning. On QuickBooks specifically, it saves in a CD Burning file, when I look at the path it is going to it says C:\Documents and Settings\(my name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning....but I can not find "Local Settings or anything beyond that when looking at Windows Explorer.
I tried to copy music also and it was not accessible, incorrect function. I can drag things into Nero or Sonic, but then even when I tried doing that with music, it does not play when I put the disk back into the computer or in a CD player
I used to do backups on Zip disks, but they are not really used much by anyone else and new computer does not have one.
This is the computer http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?poid=324113&ccid=1291021&rcid=0&seg=HHO&coid=0&poidspipedstring
Friend got it for me with Toshiba employee discount and he set it up for me. But he is in Hawaii right now, so I sent him an email, but he has not responded. I can do backups to an external hard drive that I have, but it does not serve the purpose of burning a CD
The "Local Settings" folder is a hidden folder.
Open "My Computer" click on "Tools" then "Folder Options", then click the tab labeled "View" and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked or ticked.
Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK" and you'll see hidden files and folders in a lighter shaded text from files and folders that are not hidden.
OK, I'll get something put out for you...8^)
Thank You :-)
Not a problem--if you want, I can add that info into the thread.
Otherwise, feel free to take part--I promise we won't bite...8^)
Tech support said something about CD burning should pop up as a shortcut thing on my desktop and ask me if I want to transfer it to a CD, but I could not find anything like that?
That would be an application shortcut I think, to whatever burning software program your using that you've installed. There is generally one shortcut on the desktop, and one in the start menu.
Ok, now I see that, guess "Application Data" is a hidden file too. Is this to keep people like me who are clueless about computers from messing up something I should not? But, why would a program send a file to a hidden location to be transferred to a CD? Makes no sense to me?
In QuickBooks, I think the backup feature is in the program itself. It only backs up to a zip drive or floppy disk drive. There should be a folder where all those files that are to be backed up are located. I forgot where, I'm thinking it was a subfolder where QuickBooks is located.
Yeah, that folder has subfolders for program settings for programs that Windows uses.
OK, generally in Windows XP, these files are hidden so that they're not inadvertenly damaged or destroyed by accident.
As for programs sending files to hidden locations--the only thing I can think of would be if it's the default location (which itself would be highly unusual).
Can you choose the location of where to save your data?
Thanks for your help!!
Like I said, I'm not that familiar with QuickBooks myself...8^)
Humm, I see a shortcut that says Recovery Disc Creator, when I click, it says Express Media Player Recovery CD, dont think that is it?
There is a Nero shortcut, but I dont see any record of files there to burn?
Sonic, Record Now I have to get to from the Start menu
I believe you can. My uncle uses QuickBooks, and he had the same problem. We fiddled around with it for a while, and I got it to save it to a folder I created on his desktop. So all he does now is drag those files into Nero and Nero burns those files onto CD.
