NASHVILLLE, Tenn., May 22 (UPI) -- It appears the war U.S. country radio stations mounted against the politically outspoken Dixie Chicks has not abated in the least.
The band is promoting "Taking the Long Way," its first album since Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 she was ashamed to be from the same state as U.S. President George Bush. The comment sparked a radio boycott of the group's music.
Although the album hits stores Tuesday, the first two singles from the album are not getting widespread airplay, Billboard.com reported Monday.
The first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the second single, "Everybody Knows," is moving downward after its peak at No. 48.
WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled "Not Ready to Make Nice" due to listener complaints after only one week.
The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its "self-indulgent and selfish lyrics."
Neither the Chicks or their label, Columbia Records, would speak to Billboard for its article.

"a small following of really cool people who get it"
A small following? People who "get it"?
These women are beyond ignorant. And yes, I "get it" and that's why I will never buy or support anything they do.
To: Lacey
Dixie Chicks have the support of the left in America, so they are being used for hate america groups. Natalie is too stupid to realize it.

And I heard that NBC's "Medium" played some songs from the new CD, and gave them a credit screen at the end of the show. Seems like the whole media is doing their bit to help this group.

Yeap but Natalie will be the one with her head in the sand, and she will never be welcome back in Lubbock, TX. She dissed us in her new cd and every small town in America. She is a (*&^%

If your future earning power is diminished (and undoubtedly it has been), I'll bet you start caring...
IF they have managed their money correctly (I know, it is a stretch), then they probably don't care because they can live relatively comfortable off of their previous successes for some time. Natalie still has daddy to fall back on (Lloyd Maines was very well respected before his dumbass daughter opened her pie-hole) and I think the chicks are married to guys who are not hurting for money.
The bigger question is whether or not they took into consideration that one day they would not have anyone pay attention to them. At some point it may become more important to earn a living from their music than to have people paying attention to them, but right now (and probably for a long time IF they have managed their money right) it is all about attention on them. These people are narcissists first and foremost and right now the press still loves them because they hate Bush. Bush is out of office in a few years. Who will they bash then to keep the press interested? I imagine that they will keep this "we don't care" line until the press also doesn't care about them. Then you might see then a little more contrite. I doubt Natalie will ever back down, but the other two might when they realize how bad they screwed up. I believe they are either getting bad advice from managers who are milking them for all they can get (watch for that to be the "excuse" when they realize how bad they messed up) or these are three of the stupidest human beings to have walked the face of the earth. Either way, I don't think they have given the future a second thought..... yet!
We also cannot forget that Toby Keith predicted all of this. I don't remember when it was, but I think it was before they said what they did about Bush, but Natalie and Keith had their little "fued" going on. Toby basically said she would one day stick her foot in her mouth big time. He also said she would continue to stick it in her mouth after that because she can't admit she's wrong and won't let things go. He said it would ultimately be her/their downfall, or something like that.
That boy is smarter than people give him credit! :)

Hmm. Never heard that song. I guess they lost me with their first one. I dont give too many second chances.
I didn't listen to Country all that much until the last year or two.
There's only two stations in my area - one banned the DCs and the other didn't.
I had the latter on. Usually hearing the DC's would be enough for me to change stations. When I heard the song, it sounded like the DCs, but I was busy and couldn't get over to the radio.
Its a very moving song - probably the only one of theirs I won't change stations on.

Shortly before the Dixie Chicks made their comments about President Bush, my husband and I had just started listening to their music and loved it. We just loved their sound. Thank goodness we didn't spend any money on their music before their comments. As much as we would like to go back and find all their music and even listen to their new music, we simply won't. I've never seen a more blatant case of "Shut Up and Sing" in my life. They have surely lost millions.

From the above NYT article (for those of you, who, for a variety of sound reasons, have not registered for the Times):
"The Dixie Chicks were in New York this month to make media appearances and to perform at the party for this year's Time 100, the magazine's list of influential people, which includes them. Sitting around a dinner table in a Chelsea loft that Ms. Maines owns but hasn't used much a former gallery with artist friends' paintings parked on the brick walls the three Dixie Chicks dug into takeout Italian food and sipped red wine. "I've thought about all this way too much," Ms. Maines said."

I can think of some coastal states that they can go to, and they are not Gulf Coast states either. Coastal State. Good idea. Please allow me to name the continent.

I have to say I've never been a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan (no offense!), but those are nice lyrics. You should give that tune a listen, they really perform it with a lot of heart.

Ha ha, I think you have hit on the essential fact here that moonbat DUers don't buy country music. Period. They may post kudos for the chix but they'll buy metal. The chix are alienating their customer base.
