NASHVILLLE, Tenn., May 22 (UPI) -- It appears the war U.S. country radio stations mounted against the politically outspoken Dixie Chicks has not abated in the least.
The band is promoting "Taking the Long Way," its first album since Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 she was ashamed to be from the same state as U.S. President George Bush. The comment sparked a radio boycott of the group's music.
Although the album hits stores Tuesday, the first two singles from the album are not getting widespread airplay, Billboard.com reported Monday.
The first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the second single, "Everybody Knows," is moving downward after its peak at No. 48.
WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled "Not Ready to Make Nice" due to listener complaints after only one week.
The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its "self-indulgent and selfish lyrics."
Neither the Chicks or their label, Columbia Records, would speak to Billboard for its article.
They insulted Reba. That'll get you banned from mainstream country radio all by itself.
Anyone hear from Willie Nelson after his brokeback - gay cowboy love song?
Talk about a singer that simply vanished...
How'd that all work out for him?
What a shame, having to live with the consequences of their actions.
Heh.
I guess the radio stations are not ready to make nice, either.
Reap what you sow. If you're going to bite the hand that feeds you, you better be prepared to get smacked by it.
But I saw where ABC is giving them a "Special".
"Freedom of Speech" meet "Consumer Choice"
I don't think the Dixie Chicks are owed any respect whatever.
Yeah, I read that. Why did they do it? I don't understand what they think she did to them. They trashed Toby Keith in the same breath, but at least that fight has a history to it. Why they trashed Reba, I can't figure out. They're just three nasty, arrogant women.
With any luck, the ratings for this will be lower than the recently-cancelled "Commander in Chief" POS.
No way!! Details, please.
BTW, I heard some of the Album on Imus this morning. They suck!! But, I'm sure they'll blame Bush rather than take any responsibility for themselves.
If they want another market, they will have to change their name (eliminate DIXIE) and get rid of the fiddle and banjo.
I would sure pull my ads from any radio station which played their stuff.
I don't want to buy your music
I don't want to hear you sing...anywhere
I don't want to hear you period
I don't even want to download your stuff for free
There are thousands of people far more talented than you ever were.
They would give anything just to have their music heard.
Last night the TV show "Medium" featured a song from their latest CD, and at the end of the show, the CD was shown. It ruined the show for me. What's amazing is how many in the mainstream media and Hollywood are now pimping for the band. They're really trying to rehabilitate their image.
I wish the Dixie Chicks luck in their new genre, Pop music. Country fans have voted them out. I'm predicting a name change for this group...The Yankee Egg-Layers".
With real performers like Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent to listen to, who needs the Ditzy Hicks?
Reba's hosting the American Country Music Awards tonight. I hope ~somebody~ gets in some good zingers at the Ditzy Chunks.
