What upsets me about the Da Vinci Code (our culture)
VANITY

Posted on 05/21/2006 6:09:31 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

It is not so much the movie (obvious fiction) as it is the new low that our society is reaching. Does anyone think that this movie would have been accepted in 1956 instead of 2006 ? There is always open season on christianity in this culture. There are millions of people going to see the movie this weekend. We assume that all of these people are smart enough to know that it is just fiction. But are they ? There are people who honestly believe that there was a 9/11 conspiracy. A JFK conspiracy. Elvis could still be living ! The world is spinning so fast right now. There is so much confusion on our planet currently. This poison in the blood stream of our culture is disgusting. and yes, it IS BLASPHEMY. Some of you may say "ahh, it is just a movie". Let me tell you that there are people who would let it factor into their view of christianity. Our society is full of dark things right now. I do not think this is good for christianity or the world.

Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess someday.

A mortal man cannot take away the sin of the world.

True,

There are people who wish they could prove that Jesus was just another guy with a some good ideas who got himself some vagina.

In other words... the want to prove that he was just your run of the mill human male.

That is very disgusting.

I think it keeps them from having to admit mans sinful nature. A lot of people insist that they don’t sin. You know, “relativity”. So they try to diminish or deny His deity. But no amount of lies can ever change who He is. He is King of Kings & Lord of Lords. They will bow before Him one day & confess He is Lord.

It’s hard to convince people of the need for a Savior when they believe they deserve heaven anyway. One of the most difficult things I’ve ever encountered.

Again I will state that it isn't common for countries to have coinciding opening dates.

In part US releases in the summer are tied to holiday weekends that have no equivalent in the EU or Japan or HK or NZ or AU.

Release date scheduling is also determined so as to not be opening on the same weekend as another suspected blockbuster.

The film brought in less than $100mil opening weekend US as had been boasted.

To claim otherwise is to parenthesis box office facts the way Michael Moore did to proclaim his the biggest documentary ever (non-concert film, non-Imax, etc...).

Well, it wouldn't have had a $224 million worldwide opening weekend, the second-highest in history. When did 1956 become the gold standard for Goodness in the World? :)

That's domestic only. Worldwide, it's second, after the Star Wars "Sith" movie.

Someday yes. But that day is not ours to choose. It is His.

The story has been around for hundreds or thousands of years. Is our culture so decrepit that it cannot stand discussion of ideas that have failed to make the cut historically?

Went to see it.

Kept thinking I had seen something similar.

AHA!

National Treasure meets the New Testament.

Linda,

I like you, you seem cool. but I just do not think you "get it" here. Anyone who defends this movie just does not understand.

It is totally degrading to Christianity.

I do not know what your religion is, it doesnt matter, but I know we should show respect. This movie is very disrespectfull to millions of christians all over the world and..Jesus himself.

Well, I will defer to your superior knowledge of the film, since I have not seen it yet. You obviously have, or you would not be so certain of its message.

I have not read the book or seen the movie, but I'm very familiar with the plot line. I'll cut to the chase. DNA evidence negates the entire premise.

Now for the issue of Jesus and what he might think about this film or book. I think Jesus would always welcome an opportunity to have people look at Him, think about His time on earth, and discuss what it all meant.

This film is a woodpecker on the face of Mt. Rushmore. It will do no harm to Jesus or his legacy no matter what it does. IMHO.

The Passover Plot
came out in '65 and
was a film, too.

No big effing deal.
There's no "new low." These dumb things
are old as the hills.

(Fake gnostic writings
were around in Paul's time. He
just brush off the crap.)

Thanks for the reminder about that one. Another difference is that in 1956, the Catholic Church had a list of "banned" movies that Catholics were not supposed to see, and people used it as a checklist to see all the "hot stuff". :)

Personally,
I like the DVC,
Not all of it, but dang,
when I read that MM might be in the picture of the Last Supper,
I got tears in my eyes....

But,
seems something like that is too horrific to contemplate.

Back to hugging trees for me I guess >:> /sarc

Look folks,

I am not Amish. I am not some guy with a beard riding through the hills of SEOH on a horse and a covered wagon. I like a good movie or a good book. I like music.

I am sure a lot of things are better now than they were 50 to 100 years ago. but a lot of things are not. I am afraid our culture is turning into a cesspool. Think about this movie, This movie implies that Jesus Christ had sexual intercourse with Mary Magdeline, how is that not disrespectfull to Christianity ? What ?... this is off the chart disgusting. This is nothing but a smear on those of us who know and love Christ. call me a radical and a freak if you want. People called my lord and savior the same things.
