What upsets me about the Da Vinci Code (our culture)
VANITY
Posted on 05/21/2006 6:09:31 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative
It is not so much the movie (obvious fiction) as it is the new low that our society is reaching. Does anyone think that this movie would have been accepted in 1956 instead of 2006 ? There is always open season on christianity in this culture. There are millions of people going to see the movie this weekend. We assume that all of these people are smart enough to know that it is just fiction. But are they ? There are people who honestly believe that there was a 9/11 conspiracy. A JFK conspiracy. Elvis could still be living ! The world is spinning so fast right now. There is so much confusion on our planet currently. This poison in the blood stream of our culture is disgusting. and yes, it IS BLASPHEMY. Some of you may say "ahh, it is just a movie". Let me tell you that there are people who would let it factor into their view of christianity. Our society is full of dark things right now. I do not think this is good for christianity or the world.

Do you think Jesus would be a fan of the movie ?
To: se_ohio_young_conservative
I was going to argue but I can't think of anything similar that would have been made in the 50s or 60s.
However I like a good flick and may see it when it comes out on DVD.

Hey, you said it was fiction. I said it was a good movie, not history.

We assume that all of these people are smart enough to know that it is just fiction. There are people on this forum who seem to buy into the fiction, and defend the whacky conspiracies as the gospel truth.

I try not to get too excited about things like this movie, it tends to drive their success.

I call it something other than blasphemy. I call it a religious smear.
"Blasphemy" is someone being profane towards my faith and trashing my beliefs.
This smear is designed to attack the Church as "evil" and Christians as gullible dupes.
If someone made a movie about the global Jewish conspiracy (as outlined in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion*) and played both sides of the coin claiming it is fictional (as in a fictionalized account, as ALL films are) as well as that it weaves in "real" history, we would not remain silent. I say we as Americans (I am Christian) and we have seen and CONTINUE to see this crap dredged up as justification for war (prominently now by the Islamonazis, but previously by the Aryan Nazis).
* This text is a fabrication designed as a religious smear.

It had the second highest weekend gross in history.

"Backdoor Babes pt2" in the adult film section might be a good, well made movie, but that does not make it positive or morally healthy for someones mind.
I am talking about the social and moral affects, mostly.

Did American "outrage" at the Turkish movie
"Valley of the Wolves: Iraq " improve its boxoffice (it had distribution in Germany and other Western nations)?
It was an antiAmerican film set in Iraq (with Gary Busey as a Jewish doctor stealing Iraqi prisoners organs for wealthy American and Israeli clients, not sure what role Billy Zane played).

I watched Bull Durham on TV the other day. I can't stand Tim Robbins or Susan Sarandon but I enjoyed the movie just the same.
I liked it when the catcher tells the batter what the pitcher is throwing next and says "when you speak of me, speak well". LOL

Have you ever heard of suspending disbelief? Most movies require you to buy into the premise no matter how absurd. If you believe in Darth Vader for a few hours and enjoy the movie you don't necessarily have to believe there was a galaxy long ago and far far away where it all really really happened

Jesus Christ is not Darth Vader. Jesus is the messiah.

I don't recal any great outrage. I heard of the movie and categorized it is pro islamic tripe and forgot about it.
