If "The Da Vinci Code" was already feeding the flames of controversy with its challenge to the basic tenets of Christianity, actor Ian McKellen managed to pour a refinery tank's worth of gasoline on the fire on this morning's 'Today' show, asserting that the Bible should carry a disclaimer saying that it is "fiction." Matt Lauer, in his second day "On The Road With The Code," was in Cannes for the film festival, where the Code will have its debut. It has already been screened to some critics, who have given it decidedly mixed reviews.
As I reported here, NBC reporter Melissa Stark yesterday dipped a timid toe in the sea of controversy when she interviewed Code director Ron Howard, asking how he reacted to the controversy the movie has created . . . for the Church! Sounding more like a sensitivity trainer than a Hollywood director, Howard offered up some ambiguous prose about it being healthy thing for people to engage their beliefs.
Genuine courage is not his strength.
Posturing is...
oops. Sorry about the double click.
Sick, but really good at marketing.
Want this movie to go away? Ignore it.
2. Iam McKellan's Protease cocktails have affected his judgement. He has always been a flaming lefty and pederast, however.
What other movie comes out on Friday. THE OVER THE HEDGE?
I THINK IT SHOULD BE TAKE YOUR KIDS TO THE MOVIES WEEKEND.
LETS ALL GO SEE OVER THE HEDGE. It would be so awesome if this animated film won over the Da vinci movie.
LETS GO TO THE MOVIES> TAKE YOUR KIDS TO THE MOVIES WEEKEND.
...and if you don't have kids, just pick up a couple of stray ones wandering around the local mall.
The comment by the has-been actor Ian McKellen is plain stupid and insensitive. However, biblical scholars know what is absolute truth and what is "fiction" in the bible. Some of the historal events claimed did not happen in the time frame or scope presented, or maybe not at all. The Apocolyptic verses are difficult to comprehend, for example. Although some biblical scholars believe the Bible is literal (to each his own); most think elsewise. It is just disgusting to have an ignoramus make such thoughtless and uninformed statements! My guess is that Ian was the high school cut up, and may or may not have finished college. Clearly he is not religious; not does he have any respect for those who are.
Yeah, both of them are actually on my list, so I have to see both, but I fully support anyone who wants to avoiding the Da Vinci Code. Honestly I think Over the Hedge is going to be pretty bad too, but I have slightly higher hopes for that.
He graduated Cambridge with honors.
Displays of ignorance - proving once again why actors have to have their lines written buy someone else!
***I wonder if he believes the Koran should also, and if so, why he has not expressed that opinion publically???**
He hasnt got the balls.
Education is not necessarily a sign of intelligence.
A lot of people in Hollywood are in for a rude awakening.
He's an actor. He has a narrow area of expertise and a skill set that doesn't leave much time for much else.
Yeah. McKellen's getting a bit too long in the tooth to not be making amends with the Almighty.
LOL Good one.
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.
Snakes on a Plane sounded like the best bet.
We are living in the days of the Rebellion. It's easy to see now. That means things are only going to get worse and at a ever quickening pace.
