Tom Hanks and other stars of "The Da Vinci Code" left London for the much-anticipated movie's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France, aboard a special Eurostar train.
The train, repainted with the face of the Mona Lisa, was hoping to enter the record books by making the longest international non-stop rail journey on the 1,421-kilometre (883-mile) route.
Dan Brown, who wrote the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code", joined the film version's director Ron Howard and actors Hanks, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany on the journey to the southern French coast.
The film was to open the 59th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night. The festival runs until May 28.
Religious critics claim that "The Da Vinci Code"'s theme -- that Jesus Christ had children with Mary Magdalene and their bloodline continues -- is blasphemous.
What's weird is the folks who seem to think all of Christianity is going to collapse because of the film. As I see it, 1) it'll reinforce the faithful, 2) make the curious read the bible more and more, and 3) peel off those who had no faith in the first place.
I also am curious about lies that have a large dose of truth. (Owed ya one)
I wonder if any Christians in Sudan are being influenced by the DVC, in between persecutions, or is this strictly an American Christian problem ?
It sure makes for interesting tales but I don't understand why folks are so overwrought?
I read the book and enjoyed it and didn't alter my faith or the truth one iota. Kind of amusing watching all the fuss. Sit back and enjoy the show!
Let them continue making that claim. They're exposing themselves as the liberals that they are. "Christians shouldn't defend their faith. If they do, they'll just be like the Muslims who protested the cartoons of Muhammad." Give me a break.
I'm beginning to wonder if there's ANY movie capable of getting most over-30's to shlep out to the theater anymore. My wife and I have expressed no desire to go see this movie (we both read it), nor have I heard anyone else say so, for that matter.
But my televison and Internet won't stop gushing about it.
Very few are arguing that, if any. It's more about misleading people in general. Most people know Harry Potter isn't real. On the other hand, it's easier to believe that Opus Dei is accurately portrayed in the Da Vinci Code.
Fiction can mock, dishonor, cause doubt and be blasphmous same as true fact.
And, the fiction still was written to cause harm to the legacy of Jesus and God's plan for man.
Why would I want to pay money to tarnish Jesus who gave me so much? Would I enjoy it? Would I feel better after seeing it - no, I would be ashamed, I would be furious.
Jesus died for man. He was crucified and hung on that cross, mocked, ridiculed and dishonored. He deserves our honor and glory - not our selfish disrespect because some writer chose to mock him.
What is it that has Christians so spooked about the book or movie? That Jesus had a wife and children? So what? If he had a wife and children, and still was resurrected, then there's hope for the rest of us.
Perhaps, and it's just as easy to believe that Jack Ryan works for the CIA, and that he battled drug lords and IRA terrorists... except that it, too, is fiction. Anyone misled by such a movie, as I noted, wasn't all that faithful to start with.
Uhhh... all "fiction" could be described as "lies," as fiction tells a story that is not true.
And furthermore, Dan Brown himself has claimed that his book is based on "fact" even though the characters are fictional.
Now, THAT is an oft-repeated lie. Brown claimed that the art and architecture are as described and the 'secret' rituals are or were done as described, but that the story is pure fiction.
Dan Brown, who wrote the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code", joined the film version's director Ron Howard and actors Hanks, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany on the journey to the southern French coast.
Have not read the book, have no intention of EVER seeing the movie. Writing a book full of lies about Jesus in order to sell a book and make a movie is blasphemy.
It just isn't true.
I agree.
Even that isn't true, as an article in the NY Times of all places revealed.
Did not see F911 but that was fiction trying to pass as a documentary. DVC is fiction trying to pass as fiction. Triumph of Will was propaganda you just needed a brain to understand that.
