DURHAM -- Tissue found under the fingernail of an exotic dancer who claimed she was raped at a Duke University lacrosse party may match a player who was there, several well-placed sources said Wednesday.
Analyzing the tissue, scientists concluded it came from the same genetic pool and was "consistent" with the bodily makeup of one of 46 lacrosse players who gave DNA samples for testing, the sources said.
At the same time, scientists ruled out a possible match with any of the other 45 students, according to the sources.
If accurate, the fingernail tissue match would offer the first DNA evidence potentially linking the dancer and an alleged attacker.
But because a complete DNA pattern was not obtained from the tissue, it was not possible to match it with the nearly 100 percent certainty that DNA results usually offer, the sources added.
The dancer told police she clawed at three attackers as they raped and sodomized her for 30 minutes during the March 13-14 lacrosse house party at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.

If Kim had a drink... it was probably a violation of her probation.
I'll bet not. They let her go without even checking whether she was wanted for busting parole. At the time, they probably bought her story that Roberts had found CGM wandering around the road.
They arrested a witness? OMG
Why doesn't somebody in NC stop this DA?
North Carolina spends multi-millions of dollars trying to intice tourists to visit the state and millions more to attract new businesses. Every negative stereotype northerners have about the southern system of justice is in this case.
Since the stick-on nail was found in the (bathroom?) trashcan I think the DNA tissue is bathroom tissue. LOL
LOL, the LAX team could use that thing on the DA's forehead.
yah and they left out a part..
Robert paid half, $1,875 with Crystal's twenties... errrrr. I mean all in twenties... ummmm, I mean, yah...with a certified check... that's it...
Seriously, could DNA get on the fingernails by picking it up and throwing it away? Especially "press on " nails?
that should have been
"now a poor black man"
bump
Regarding this article....
In your experience, how long did someone have to look to find the cab driver's name in relation to this incident?
And if he was merely picking up a fare, would the decision to charge him with a misdemeanor be Nifong's or would there be the old "plausible deniability" built in?
"What was the DNA results regarding what is between her legs?"
The DNA for that area came back negative for the 46 lacrosse players who were tested. The results were announced around the end of March. That's why we feel this whole case against these guys is a farce.
That he was arrested for this is really a new low, even for this DA.
And since they asked him if he had anything else to add to the Duke player's alibi, the DA is clearly doing this for revenge.
Found two and a half days later no less!
Question:
Is it possible that Gottlieb investigated the AV's 1998 claim that her husband was trying to kill her?
http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/434144.html
Gottlieb, who supervises Himan and six other investigators, went from managing patrol officers to overseeing investigations in February, a month before the rape report. He has handled armed robberies, shootings, and stabbings. As a domestic violence investigator, he obtained dozens of guilty pleas from men who assaulted their wives and girlfriends.
Gottlieb's work in high-profile cases has been mostly behind the scenes, but he had a prominent role in the 2001 investigation of a street gang that targeted Hispanic immigrants for robberies and assaults. Gottlieb charged five men affiliated with the Bloods gang with nearly 200 counts of robbery, kidnapping and assault.
In the end, dozens of the victims could not be located and brought to court, causing dozens of the charges to be thrown out. Still, there was enough evidence that four of the five men pleaded guilty or were convicted of some charges. The fifth died before trial.
Gottlieb has handled at least four previous rape cases, according to police and court records. He made arrests in three cases. One man pleaded guilty to rape and received a life sentence for that and other offenses. A second man pleaded guilty to assault on a female.
Gottlieb has taken on Duke students before, as much of the off-campus population lives in the district where he serves. One loud party led to an investigation that didn't stand up in court. Five students who lived at 203 Watts St. were charged with noise and open-container violations for an October party. Gottlieb testified that by the time officers arrived, everyone had left. One student was convicted.

Clayton, who is working under Gottlieb on the case, picked up Elmostafa on Wednesday afternoon.
"The detective asked if I had anything new to say about the lacrosse case," Elmostafa said. "When I said no, they took me to the magistrate."
