Duke underestimated the rape allegations against members of the lacrosse team in part because Durham police initially said the accuser "kept changing her story and was not credible," according to a university report issued Monday.
The day after the March 13 team party where a 27-year-old black woman claimed she was raped, Durham police told campus officers that "this will blow over," the report said. It said that the woman initially told police she was raped by 20 white men, then said she was attacked by three.

Since Duke is as politically correct as any institution it will now proceed into an orgy of self-flaggelation and abnegation with the appointment of a woman to led it and more women higher ups hired.

okay, let's talk about police and DA misconduct in a broader sense.....
David Westerfield, notorious child killer, was driven around for reports up to 19 hours without food or water or sleep with the cops, sans lawyer.....
but that was forgiven by the public....
the public has got to see that if one police/DA office gets away with misconduct, others will follow suit.....
sometimes it will nab a bad person, like a Westerfield, but sometimes it will nab innocent people like in the McMartin case or the case of the "Little Rascal" daycare center.....
I'm not saying that I think nothing happened at Mc Martin, or at "little Rascals" but I am saying that the prosecution was so overboard that a guilty verdict was virtually assured....
I would say there were maybe five who weren't suspicious from the get-go.
Westerfield's attorney was in the process of negotiating a guilty plea in exchange for a life sentence if he told the cops the location of the body. Prosecutor backed out when they found the body Danielle's body prior to making the deal.
A few years ago they were all more reasonable. Well, Nancy and Kimberly were. Wendy Murphy has always been way out there. I feel they have tapped into a market, just like the Limbaughs and O'Reillys, except it is the "angry female," instead of the angry male.
Nancy Grace was not so out there a few years ago. I feel she learned that extreme sells in tv today, so she has gone there. Wendy Murphy has always been out there, and except for a slight wobble, her orbit remains unchanged. Kimberly seems to be following Nancy's path, as I've seen her be reasonable on Court TV.
