"Star Trek" Novel Dedicated to Cindy Sheehan
Pocket Books ^

Posted on 04/23/2006 3:40:21 PM PDT by YourAdHere

I was in Borders tonight when I noticed the latest Star Trek novel, entitled "Last Full Measure." I admit to being a trekkie, and I know that the themes have always been very liberal. But I do like to read the stories.

This book however, I won't be buying, since one of the authors dedicated the book to Cindy Sheehan, for her tireless efforts (and I'm paraphrasing here) against the unjust administration and the unjust war that it has brought on in Iraq. I quickly decided that Pocket Books just cost themselves a sale.

Just thought I'd pass this along to fellow Trekkie freepers.

Chekov had a squeeze every once in a while, but Sulu just liked to hang out in the workout areas and get all sweaty. IMO, ST took a dive when they started making movies. The series (what I have seen) looks like a PC future that I desparately hope the Klingons destroy before the future is set. Shoot, even the Klingons in the new twist are whimps.

Though I was a fan of Enterprise, I only buy novels on the original series, and they are getting fewer and fewer nowadays.

Her's one of my favorites! THE ECONOMICS OF STAR TREK: http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/Essays/Trek-Marxism.html

Look for Trek novels written by Dafydd ab Hugh/Brad Linaweaver.

They're total right wingers. =]

In fact, in one novel (can't recall) - they wrote Captain Sisko attended Thomas Sowell High School.

Like against the Borg. They didn't negotiate with the enemy; they kicked butt.

You have to admit, though, that that's an exception to the rule (and they don't seem to grasp that because it was, the Borg were the only creation of the Next Generation gang that more than Trekkies know about).

Trek became massively PC once Roddenberry started hogging all the credit at sci fi conventions in the later 60's. It's like someone pointed out to him how militaristic the original show was, and he had an awakening.

It's so rare that they "kicked butt" on post-original ST that I stopped watching early on. Too many yap sessions on the Enterprise.

Depends on how liberal Amazon is. They review each review before they post it.

Actually, I thought ENTERPRISE was far less PC/liberal than NG. I'm still a Trekkie, though. Even NG wasn't so blatant as to keep me from enjoying it. I sure won't buy this book, but I also figure it's probably not warranted to tie the whole Star Trek enterprise (bad pun) to one goofy author.

Go for it. You can also rate the book on a scale of 1-5 stars. 0 is not an option.

No great loss for me,as virtually all of the trek books I have read were crap, both writing and plot. I never peruse the trek/star wars books.

I believe this has damaged the Star Trek franchise beyond repair.

You're right. The coffin has been sealed for a few years now. But this is the final nail.
