I had a miniature version of that disaster hit last week - I used a !@#$%&*! contraption called the
"Kleer Drain" which uses a pressurized CO2 cannister to blast through a clogged sink drain pipe... You guessed it, crap all over the bathroom (floor, walls, ceiling, door)... Took days to clean up...

forced 3,000 gallons of raw sewage into a couple's home, Ok I'd want a whole new house... that's just too much crap to wash off.
To: Graybeard58
I hope that couple hires a lawyer and gets there " Promised " repairs in writing and notarized.
The least the city could do is condemn the house and build a new house little farther down the road from that sewage swamp.
To: Graybeard58
I've seen this a couple of times, the house can fill for several inches and the doors to the outside need to be opened.
I've never seen the after effects, so I don't how much restoration is needed to make the house inhabitable.

I would get a lawyer and try to get the city to get me a new house all together. I don't I could ever bring myself to eat in the crapped house again, no matter how well they cleaned it.
