The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My friend Lisa, along with her dad and two other guys, saved an old man once who capsized his boat right near the dock. She did mouth to mouth on him. At the time she did what she needed to do, and I admired her for that, one never knows what they're capable of until it happens! But afterwards, she said "It'll be a long time before I eat eggs". That was all the information I needed :~\

Our feeder was kinda in the shade...the ones that fell right there wouldn't grow, but usually we got a few further out. I guess they really don't care for shade.

Good to know. One of my favorite teachers in high school (there were dang few) hit her head on the bottom of the local swimming pool and the guy (a guy I knew from high school) that was the life guard wouldn't do CPR on her. She was alive when they pulled her out but died soon after.

I babysat their little toddler daughter while her husband took care of her funeral arrangements. I guess I was 15. I remember he tried to pay me and it was one of those moments in your young life when you just know that wasn't right.

I often wonder about the lifeguard...he was my age and he's had to live with that all his life.

Not sure if I didn't prepare the ground well enough or what.

How was the ground supposed to be prepared? Maybe it didn't rain enough when you first put them down? Keep us up to date on how they do. I was interested in that concept.

We have a HUGH viburnum bush next to the garage. SirKit was gonna attack it with the chain saw last week, then I looked inside it and saw a bird's nest with some babies in it! They were little robins, and the mom would perch in a tree in our neighbor's yard before flying over to the nest to feed them.

It seems they've all flown the coop now, so we can start cutting the bush back.

They don't answer the phone till 9. I'm going to shower now and get dressed, but I'm planning on moving it to either this afternoon, or a different day next week.

It didn't really say other than "well prepared soil". I think my problem is that what is basically under the streambed is clay. Should've broken it up more and stuff...

Maybe I shoulda been a vet instead.

It's not too late. Because of nursing school, you would have had some of the required courses already, anyway! Being a vet would sure help you with the animal husbandry on your little plot of land. ;o)

Our #1 son has discovered the joys of Vidalia onions. He never really noticed them until he watched an Alton Brown show on Onion Soup, then made some, using the Vidalias. That's all I buy in the summer time, so he's used them all summer, and is just amazed at how tasty and sweet they are.

researching wasps... My father-in-law does that very same thing at UC Riverside. Right now he is working on teeny tiny wingless wasps (they all look like ants to me).

In other news, we have a new homeschool group set up to officially be running July 1st. It is called, I think, Collin County Homeschoolers SAIL. SAIL stands for Sharing Adventures in Learning. We are currently working on a webpage.

There is more to the dissolution story than I knew originally, and more developed as we regrouped into SAIL. It is proving to be a bit nasty on one side. Some members are trying to be in both groups, but the "leader" of the member led group doesn't want to two groups to mingle - at all.

It's really wierd. The other group is supposed to be a member led group and no membership fees. However, there is one person in charge of decisions and there are levels of membership. There are some hard feelings, though I don't really understand why. The new group is friendly/inviting about everything (especially concerning the old leadership). The old leadership is really adamant about not letting the two groups have any activity together.
