New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
What seedball things, precious?
Those are the banners I was talking about. The freepathon ad in the first post disappears after the thon is over.
Oh my...could be shock, or internal bleeding. Even a heart attack from just the fear.
Maybe it'll recover...
My steenkin' bunnies got some of my pepper plants and they really like LSAggie's coneflower. I've still got some more eggplant that need to go somewhere. I've got one in a pot...in the wheelbarrow out of bunny reach.
Danged uppity varmints! They lounge around in my back yard like they own the place!
I ordered a couple of sets. I think I'll try them again next year if the naybers get their fence up. I couldn't do too much with the soil on their side of the stream bed.
FWIW, I can't wait 'til they get that fence up...
Ah, larn sumthin' new ever day...
I always try to give them a chance, but these little injured critters never make it. I didn't inspect him completely either, didn't want to stress him. I figure, better to have some peace and quiet to die in than getting ripped up by a cat.
I put some horse grain out for the others, they seem to be sniffing it trying to figure out if it's food.
Maybe they're just late bloomers.
You know, I really meant to do some sunflowers, but I guess I fergot.
We have a new nest of little birds in the spider plant hanging outside the kitchen window. Nana watched them build the nest. I wonder if it's the same couple I accidentally evicted from the fern out front.
Could be, but what's comin' up don't look so healthy...
Heh...I was rather expecting the post following yours to be one from OT saying "Gooooood kitty!"
They get stressed easily, the little critters. I can remember a LOT of times when we rescued a seemingly unhurt bird from the cats, only to have it die moments later.
Ah'll say!
Larn sumthin' new ever day...
;-)
Heh... I think the stress of that would give the little guy a heart attack. I think that's what kills them, mostly, the shock.
Aw...that's too bad. They seem like a great idea, but if they don't work in practice...
You wouldn't think sunflowers would be too picky. We always had volunteers in odd places from birds dropping the seeds.
Once Jr. passed his CPR test, I asked him if he could perform it on an ugly woman with a mustache and false teeth.
He, rather maturely I might add, said "Sure, I'll have a mask, and I'd have to check to make sure there were no foreign objects in her mouth."
I was right proud.
The sunflowers that grow under the squirrel feeder never seem to make it past sprout stage. I wonder if it moved the squirrel feeder out into the sun and actually watered them, if they'd grow.
I remember once in nursing school, a ruby-throated hummingbird hit the window of the dorm, knocked it out and I ran out and got it and held it for a while, gently rubbing it with my fingertip...eventually it recovered it's wits, sat perched in my hand for a bit and flew off! My dorm-mates were astounded and everyone said it was a sign that I was supposed to be a nurse!
Maybe I shoulda been a vet instead.
I'm guessing the problem is more the soil rather than the seedballs themselves. If I can get some work done on that this fall, I may try again next year.
But it's still early, and now at least, there's no question about whether they're getting enough water.
The caladium and elephant ear(s) I planted out front are finally coming up. The ones in the pots have been up for a while.
