Wow, great list. I don't like all the songs but no doubting the quality musicianship here.

Link Wray's Rumble launched a lot of guitarists.

How about Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird"?

Rush-
La Villa StrangiatoHe's never had the recognition of Geddy's bass or Neal's percussions, but Alex Lifeson is one heck of a guitarist.

Led Zeppelins classic Stairway to Heaven has been voted the best guitar solo of all time. That's not even Jimmy Page's best solo.

"Stairway to Heaven"--give me a break.
Where is Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing."

Surprising that Ted Nugent didn't make the cut.

I could name 10 Zappa solos off the top of my head that would put anything on that list to shame.

6. Cream Crossroads ...... This one ranks for me. Mick Taylor's solos for the Stones (Sway) were blistering and are on the better bootlegs

What? No "Money for Nothing" Dire Straits? Or does that only qualify more generally as greatest intro ever?
And no Chuck Berry. The bias for long-haired homeless-looking white dudes from the '70s (and now '80s) is way too heavy.

Not to change the subject here...
But Eric Clpton's piano solo in "Layla" would make my #1 list of piano solo's.
But back to the topic..... Clapton also deserves credit somewhere in this list, dontcha think?

There's a guitar solo in Stairway to Heaven?
The Eagles? Joe Walsh has ALL the talent in that band.

Personally I like "Classical Gas." I love Stairway, but not for it's guitar solo.

How could it be that Freebird didn't make it into the top 10?
To: Cagey
Wow, that's pretty much a "none of the above" list for me, save for perhaps Brian May and Queen at #10. Without thinking about it too hard, and limiting the list to one entry per guitarist...
1) Steve Vai: "For the Love of God"
2) Joe Satriani: "Flying in a Blue Dream"
3) Yngwie Malmsteen: "Black Star"
4) Eric Johnson: "Cliffs of Dover"
5) John Petrucci (Dream Theater): "Under a Glass Moon"
5) Steve Howe (Yes): "The Gates of Delirium"
6) Steve Morse: "Quantum Soup"
7) Alex Lifeson (Rush): "La Villa Strangiato"
8) Roine Stolt (Transatlantic): "All of the Above"
9) Vinnie Moore: "Fear and Trepidation"
10) Ed Wynne (Ozric Tentacles): "Pixel Dream"
