This is a little pet-peeve of mine: Never does Seacrest say that the two left standing on the stage on elimination night are the lowest two vote-getters. With all due respect to the hard work the writer of that article has done, he or she is incorrect in that assumption. The line to the first of the three to sit down is, "...you are safe," not, "...you have the third lowest votes." The producers decide which two of the three contestants left have the biggest drama associated with their fate and leave those two on the stage (to take us into the break!).
The only time we know which contestant is in the bottom two is by the time AI leaves only two on the stage, instead of three.
I'm not so sure it's about the contestants. There was an article posted a few days ago about how being on AI really boosts sales for those who do the gig.
Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart obviously helped when they were there. But the rest; it was pretty much of a train wreck.
One reason AI is so popular this year is that people really tuned in last year, when those talented contestants kept getting better. Besides that, the guest judge concept provided advice and something fresh from the judges.
Isn't it about time to let the contestants do some original material? What we don't need is more superstars who can't make anything original worth listening to.
Oh, absolutely, and I agree with him 100%. Especially the part about smelling like sabotage.
Her problem is that she has no personality. I could listen to a recording, but it is painful to watch her sing. She needs "umph" as grandma would say. I'm surprised that she has gotten this far...not for want of talent, but for want of communication skills.
Nigel doesn't know?
Yeah, right. That's not how I understand it.
I found that odd too...
I agree relative to production, judges, etc.
With my Tivo that is no problem...fast forward is my friend!
Excuse my ignorance,,,,what is "19E"?
Thanks,
grania
American Idol has produced Carrie Underwood for the country market. NS, a blatant AI knock-off, has produced almost nothing for the country market except maybe a bit more TV exposure for established acts.
I think what the author is saying is that Fantasia was in the bottom 3 TWICE, weeks 6 and 9. That author left out commas and such, so I took it as hurried writing. just a guess
"19 Entertainment" is the production company behind American idol, and the "owner" of the talent that makes the top 12.
See, I didn't realize that they could hear themselves. I guess its a case of not being able to see the forrest for the trees. Except dealing with hearing instead of sound.
I haven't watched enough NS to know. How do they dtermine their winner? Do they start with a certain amount and do a weekly elimination? Who decides on who is eliminated?
ack! That should have been couldn't
I don't know if anyone is interested but I read on another forum that Randy Jackson is supposed to be on Jay Leno tonight.
I figured. ;)
That's why you'll sometimes see footage of in-studio singer taking off the headsets (at least one side) and covering one ear --they're blocking out the rest of the sound so they can hear themselves better. You can't do that on stage, because it looks silly, so you have to rely on hearing yourself through the monitor.
That's really what I'm trying to say when I post something like "if you can't hear, you can't sing".
I didn't realize that they couldn't hear themselves. I have seen singers put their finger in their ear before and that explains why they do that! lol
It's almost identical to American Idol. In fact, Nashville Star began the year after Idol started (and surprised the entire music industry by doing so well in the ratings). NS is an almost total 100% rip-off of AI.
They do things a little differently. For example, they don't televise the early auditions and eliminations. Their TV season starts after a group of finalists is chosen by the judges and producers.
Also, because it's country music, the contestants are allowed to accompany themselves with instruments while they sing. And they have one night each season when the contestants must perform an original song that they wrote.
Because they only do one night a week instead of two, they handle eliminations a little differently than AI. They call out who's safe one at a time, then that person performs their song for the night and gets judged. The person with the lowest number of votes from the previous week's performances is called next to last, says their goodbyes, does not perform, and leaves. Then the last safe person performs. Then the public can vote on that night's performances.
AI really think AI should do the same thing regarding original songs.
Do you know hwat kind of viewership numbers NS has?
