No. South Park is intended to be outrageous. South Park is the temple at which I worship.

Showing anal bleeding from a statue no matter who is depicted is unfunny! The Virgin Mary statue may mean nothing to you. If it was a statue of your mother I'm sure your tune would change!

But it wasn't anal bleeding either, turned out it was normal female bleeding, which ended the "miracle".

Statues mean nothing to me, especially imaginary statues in a cartoon show. If there's anything less meaningful than a hunk of rock it's a drawing of a hunk of rock, and it gets even less meaningful when the drawing isn't even a depiction of a real hunk of rock.

Oh, I understand the significance of the Virgin Mary in Catholicism. I also know that if there was a statue of my mom on South Park that was bleeding (or not), I'd laugh at the absurdity of it all. And my dear mother, a devout Catholic, passed away when I was 6 years old. A statue is just that: a statue. An inanimate object that shouldn't be worshipped or idolized, or manipulated to "weep real tears", or display stigmata, or bleed from its nether regions.

What if it was a wall bleeding? Would that be offensive or go to far? It is still stone and blood after all. A statue is just nicely shaped stone. So once the stone is shaped just right it suddenly becomes more than what it is? How would one know if it really looks like Mary or not? So if a pigeon poops on a statue does that mean it happens in real life? What happens when a statue breaks in half? Do we have to rush someone to surgery? If you break a statue of a saint do you have to do some kind of community service?

I have seen lots of depictions of Mary and while they all have the same basic theme, they rarely look the same...and her skin tone seems to match the color of the culture that is worshiping her image. This is similar to the portrayal of the alien that goes around abducting people here and there. Seems like his/her/its basic theme is always the same but the shades of green vary. And what about her being an everlasting virgin? Didn't Jesus have at least one brother? James? Wasn't he the result of sex between Joseph and Mary? So Mary never had sex AND she never sinned? Seems to me you can't do both....marrying a man and then never having sex with him seems to me to be false advertising....a broken marriage vow at the very least. And where in the bible did Mary go up in to heaven? Isn't that in the book of first opinions?

In my opinion, putting too much stock in a statue presents more problems in ones life than being offended by butt blood.
The humor is not that a statue is bleeding, the humor is that people who worship the statue, or a piece of toast, or a flake of paint, or an image in a tree are being made fun of. People who make a mockery of religion by placing their faith in stones or a block of wood deserve to be mocked and ridiculed. This is not a knock against any particular religion. I just have little patience for people getting offended when their ox is gored but laugh right along with everyone else when other sacred cows are exposed.

I think a better question is why Viacom allows other religions to be insulted, but not Scientology.
