FR Folding@Home Project Update - We're in the Top 150 teams Worldwide! (A Tribute to Ronald Reagan)
Stanford University Mathematics Department ^ | 03/20/2006 | Many Volunteers

Posted on 03/20/2006 8:50:19 PM PST by texas booster

OK, new thread for the next week, celebrating the first of many Million point producers – our very own Klutz_Dohanger!

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 1011 processors and 305 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over 50 computers from GetLoaded.com, a trucking support website, all contributing while their owners ply our freeways keeping the nation moving.

We now have 57 members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Woo-Hoo!

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 225 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of folders for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 157. We will be in the Top 150 on Saturday!

As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:

Top 150 by March 30
Top 100 by the end of the May

We have 3,350,000 points so far and have folded over 20,000 WU. We now fold over a million points per month, each and every month! Fantastic!

Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.

Thanks for your dedication! BTW, can you add a red flag if the last line is something like this: "Folding@Home Client Shutdown."

I just found one of mine workstations sitting fat, dumb and happy, but not doing any work. It had that message. I restarted the service and it is working fine, now.

I have a question... I fixed the systems at work today, but they are both back to red. I know one of them is running. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Welcome aboard.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but it looks to me like you may have used a different username for the second machine. You want to use the same username for all your machines. If you use multiple usernames, each username gets its own score. All machines with the same name will get a combined score.

If I've misinterpreted your post, I'll go back in my hole and shut up, if not, you can change a username at any time.

Not sure. The last log entry I have for Monster is from 1029 this morning, and from Vaio at 1201. Check out the result code from your scheduler and ensure that it's 0x0. Try right-clicking on the task and running. See if an entry for your machine shows in the log file (I'll Freepmail you the link). If this fails, try running the script from File Explorer and seeing if you made it into the log file.

Thanks! I'm enjoying the heck out of this-- except when my IP address changes and I hit an iceberg.

...can you add a red flag if the last line is something like this: "Folding@Home Client Shutdown."

By design, I'm not looking at the actual log file-- just the status file. Reason being, I know of no good way to start at the end of the log file and just look at the last few lines. I'd have to start parsing from the beginning of the rather lengthy file. With VBScript, especially, this is a slow, CPU-intensive process.

Instead, I just look at the file timestamp on the unitinfo.txt file (status file) and if the difference between that and now gets to be too long (beyond the number of minutes specified in the script), I flag the machine.

This should be sufficient. It's possible, though, that you've found a hole in that logic. Can you let me know which machine it is, the time it shut down, and when you discovered that it had? I'll compare those times to what's in the log file and see what went wrong.

Thanks!

Sweet! It's okay to use the same username and team ID for each computer you use. In fact, it's the way you want to do it. :)

As long as you change your second machine's username back to SW6906 before it posts its next work unit, it will be credited to SW6906.

Irk!    You're not supposed to be getting error messages.

ROTFLOL

And I'm Bill Gates, heheh.    The BSOD was never supposed to happen, either, but we all know how that turned out.   Oh well, the best laid plans ...     LOL   ;^D

Ya know, if you want something done right, ya gotta do it yourself.  But sometimes, you have to get others involved - like web masters, administrators, DNS providers, etc.    There's nothing you can do to prevent unexpected errors caused by others, but you were unbelievably fast in finding the error, the solution, and getting the fix out.

Amazing - simply Amazing.   Thanks for being such a Pro.

Anybody else seeing this? I'm getting the following log entries on all my Linux boxes currently...

[04:21:12] Folding@home Core Shutdown: CORE_OUTDATED
[04:21:12] CoreStatus = 6E (110)
[04:21:12] + Core out of date. Auto updating...
[04:21:12] New core downloaded for this work unit, but still out of date.
[04:21:12]
Folding@Home will go to sleep for 1 day as there have been 5 consecutive Cores executed which failed to complete a work unit.
[04:21:12] (To wake it up early, quit the application and restart it.)
[04:21:12] If problems persist, please visit our website at http://folding.stanford.edu for help.
[04:21:12] + Sleeping...

I'm noticing that the status file is still being written too-- and so my machines are not showing red, and they're all showing 100% from the previous project.

I think this might be your issue, FreeAtlanta. Was your frozen machine showing 100%?

No, it was only showing 6%. I got suspicious and dug into the log and noticed that it was stopped. However, the CPU was still pegged. Also, it is an XP Pro machine.

It could be your scheduling is messed up. I had the same problem the first night. I didn't set up schedule right and it never updated to Egon's server.

Just an update, since I got curious and went stumbling over to DU to see them gloat about how "fast" they're climbing the folding ranks - they've added thread #10 (apparently a week or so ago), so y'might wanna update the list of DU threads you've got on the start of the thread. :)

I'm just tickled that I finally passed the 8k mark with my one, lone laptop processor (when it's turned on and isn't in-transit somewhere). I've gotta steal some of Kingu's computers to pump up my totals one of these days!

Most of what he said relies on the assumption that you have set up scheduled tasks on every computer you're using to run FaH. You can see if your tasks are running properly by opening the task scheulder (Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Scheduled Tasks).

There's a column titled "Last Result" if you look at that value for the Folding At Home task that you've created, it should show 0x0 if it ran properly last time. If you want to test the task, right-click on it, and select "Run". Then you can check the web page to see if it's updated.

If your task isn't set up properly, you can try manually running the script, by opening a Windows Explorer window (or My Computer, whichever you prefer), finding the script file, and double clicking on it. Again, you can check the web page to see if it updated properly.

One mistake I initially made was not understanding that the script knows how long the interval is for the scheduled tasks. If you haven't synchronized the constant for that in the script file, with the value you gave the task, you may see errors where there really isn't one. It's this constant in the script:

Const m_iUSER_TIME_UPLOAD = 60

In my case, my task is scheduled to run hourly, so this constant has to be set to 60 minutes as well. If you are running your tasks hourly or more frequently, this probably isn't your problem.
