Find a partner or grab your favorite beverage & listen to some Irish tunes .A couple of wave files - full-length, lilting, Irish melodies - they are so beautiful! I hope you can open them, or "save target as" to your hard drive and listen to them later. "My Wild Irish Rose" ~ John Gary "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" ~ John Gary

 Why Saint Patrick's Day?
Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

I shot one of those big .500 Smiths at a local indoor range. A Smith rep comes around a few times a year and brings one of every gun they sell. For a few dollars each you can shoot any of them. The .500 was a few times more expensive to shoot than the others.

It was fun and I did well with it. You have to be careful it doesn't hit you in the head on recoil.

I really, really want to organize a FReeper BBQ somewhere when I am done with school. Over a long weekend, I think that would be just too much fun!

Oh, do try to do so.. go to FReeps. I think I have met a couple hundred.. well maybe more counting the inauguration. In our area we get together a couple times a year for lunch/get togethers.. and there are other FReeps around. Check in with your state board & REQUEST to be notified of FReeps & meetings.

Hopefully by the time you're out of school I'll be out of Mom and Dad's house and be independent enough to go.

It would be hard settling on a meeting place, though, since we are all kind of scattered.

I went to the Second Amendment Sister's counter-march to the Million Mom's March in the year 2000 in D.C. and there were quite a few FReepers there that I got to meet.

Actually, we need several FReeper parties throughout the U.S. Give more people a chance to attend.
