Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

No, I try to avoid it at all costs! My company has offices in St. Pete and thats our running joke, "Mullets in today" means we have visitors from Fla.

I like your absurd name.

"Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling" is a song from one of the "Shootout at the OK Corral movies. I think it was the one with Kirk Douglas in it.

We rode it the first time we went to Universal Studios Orlando. It was atrocious and laughable, especially considering the line. So the second time we went, we skipped it.

Have you seen the anime version of Metropolis?

I plan to rent Steamboy this week-end as well as Howl's Moving Castle.

I thought Kalifornia was the land of mullets and gold chains.

I have to say, this statement on your website confuses me:

Rumors of my weight have been greatly exaggerated, LOL. At 5'7" 125 lbs, eating healthy and working out daily lead me to believe that thinness isn't my forte,

I weigh considerably more than you, and I'm not exactly considered a "fattie" to anyone (that I'm aware of).

"Doesn't help that they are usually our bosses."

Who knows, you might feel an unconcious urge to grow one as time passes - an insidious subliminal message.

No I haven't. I'll make a note to rent it on Netflix if you think it's worth watching.

Just watched the opener for Dr. Who. Pretty interesting so far.

Fritz Lang's silent original is a sci-fi classic and the anime version is pretty true to the original but with greater visual impact.

So, I assume that you kicked arse and took names at tennis today. How badly did you vanquish your opponents?

I'll bet she's never played a "game" of tennis before. You call beating the other player without letting them score once a "game?"
