Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

That's a tuffy. I like all kinds of music, and I can make the most impossible song dancable, just by being ridiculous with it, hence the name. :)

I'm glad that wasn't the Teddy Kennedy rendition of that song.

Rumor is he usually passes out in the middle of the second line. :-)

I haven't heard of some of the artists you've mentioned, but I bet I can dance to each and every one of their songs, as ridiculous as I may look doing it. :P

Miller High School, 1998, "Dust in the Wind". The guy next to me looked at me and said "I guess Kansas (the band that released that) doesn't have anything to worry about". It was awful. Beautiful song, takes great skill to achieve it.

Some of the artists I mentioned are very obscure. Very hard to find albums to. Like Within Temptation. LOL I do not even know how to dance at all.

That is a great song!

A college band, let alone a high school band, couldn't pull it off!

Yeah, but he gets into the spirit of this holiday.

In his own unique way.

Impressive.

I only have magna ridiculousness, not maxima or summa ridiculousness.

And that's only when I'm intoxicated.

I used to love it when St. Patrick's Day was on a Friday. I still do, but I'm a little more mellow now.
