The SCI FI Channel's top-rated original series will break the mold and jump to a fall season premiere, the network announced today. The 20-episode third season of Battlestar Galactica will premiere in October 2006 on the cable network.
Production begins in April in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The network did not give a reason for the later premiere date. As a cable channel SCI FI has traditionally counter-programmed to the big broadcast networks, airing new episodes of its original series when the networks are in reruns.
The broadcast networks have increasingly aired new programming during the summer off-season, such as ABC's highly-rated Dancing With the Stars. But in October, Galactica will likely face stiffer competition.
Whether or not a fall premiere for SCI FI's highest-rated series will see an improvement for Galactica's viewership remains to be seen. The show's ratings have dropped significantly this season, along with the rest of the network's Friday night line-up.
Both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are back in production, and are still expected to premiere in the summer. Stick with GateWorld for the latest developments.
No pics?
OCTOBER!?!?!!???!?
I agree. Something is going to give...
Yes October :(
I know that Doctor Who, Eureka and Dresden Files are still in the pipeline, but damn!
Reusing of small sets, reuse of the same old computer generated images and if filmed elsewhere, maybe a lack of expensive unions.
They also eventually go to regular TV now and are making revenue there.
Plus they will have DVD sales as well.
10 minutes and you have not followed protocol. Where are the pictures of Grace?
Everything anyone needs to know about battlestar galactica (vol 2):

It's a LOT easier (and moderately more entertaining) to read the TWoP versions than to watch the footage taken by their spastic, Parkinson's-afflicted, crack-twitchy cameraman (I mean, it's NICE that they're 'hiring the handicapped' and all, but GEEZ already!) Do the producers owe this guy money or something?
And the 'steadycam' version (vol 1):

Doctor Who? You're kidding! An Americanized version, I would assume - American television just can't resist $h¡¡ng all over the classics.
When?
I hate to hear that. I don't watch the two SG series that come on before BG, but I haven't missed a single episode of BG since I got home from Iraq, and thanks to my wife, I had season 1 on dvd waiting for me when I got home, so I was able to catch up on it quickly.
I wonder if a lot of people are now using dvr or tivio plus the fact that you can download the shows now has to due with low ratings...
possably. I have the media center version of windows xp. I use it like tivo to record my favorite shows. I then use dcut to edit out the commercials, and compress the file into a WMP format, which takes about 250MB for each one hour tv show. My hard drive is filling up now, so I guess I'm gonna have to start moving them onto dvd to free some space.
Not Americanized - the new 2005 BBC series premieres on SciFi on 3/17 at 9P with the first two episodes. SciFi has picked up the 13 episode first season. The second season is set to premiere on BBC One either this month or next.
Admittedly, I've seen the entire first season (thanks to bittorrent, where I'll also be watching the second, along with the spinoff "Torchwood," set to debut in October), and love it. But I'll be watching it once again on SciFi.
Tivo counts into ratings; the tuner is tuned to the channel in question...
