Unless the girl was drunk since she met the guys that day, she went to a hotel room with them. What was she expecting, tiddly-winks? I have no problem in placing the fault equally on all present. The punishment by law, however, is not equal. She should get a record of being a slut.
That is apparently what young girls aspire to these days. Haven't you seen the tee-shirts saying "porn star", etc.?
Than you are probably not for the new in thing of "cuddle parties" kid you not that is the new hip thing with the younger college crowd ....
This kid gets 10 years and Bill Clinton walks.......
I'm not against sex, but I think you should have to get it the old fasion way - earn it.
That's what many teen girls aspire to these days.
Notwithstanding this peculiar case, these kinds of statutes do have a just and proper purpose, a purpose that most fair minded citizens would agree applies the factual scenarios that were contemplated by legislators when the statues were passed.
It would be foolish and misguided to jettison the application of the statute in all cases just because of this one case.
I agree. Acquit and then have the kid caned for stupidity and irresponsibility.
If he were my son he'd be begging for prison time for protection from me.
Yes, the kid did a bad thing. But a lot of adults failed him and the others. Who rented the hotel room? If it wasn't an adult, the hotel manager was part of the problem. And why didn't the parents of a 15 year old girl know where she was going, and what that situation would be?
When kids this young think drinking and sex parties are ok, the adults have failed. IMO, the only question is whether we can do anything to redeem kids who were brought up with no values. I don't think jail does it, but what do we have?
If only his NEA teacher participated. Then they would have gotton probation.
Childhood is prolonged in this country?!?! Are you kidding me?!?! We push our kids to be grown up and treat them as grown ups long before we should in this country! These children are proof of that.
Just because it was common for teens to get married in the past doesn't make it a good idea. I speak from experience here. A 16 year old child has no idea what they really want in life because they have no idea what life really is at that age.
>>That is apparently what young girls aspire to these days. Haven't you seen the tee-shirts saying "porn star", etc.?>>
No, dut I have seen 12-year old girls with short short jeans and t-shirts with at least 100 guys' signatures on it. I was brave enough to ask a kid what that meant, and I got the answer that we all suspected. Just a whore. I understand the girl now is HIV-positive and her parents sued the school for "allowing" her to wear such clothes that brought about her health condition.
Want to know the sick part? Out-of-court settlement for the parents. The girl is now 16 and is dying.
Forbidden fruits create many jams.
>>A 16 year old child has no idea what they really want in life because they have no idea what life really is at that age.>>
... because they have been sheltered and given a period of no-responsibility. No requirement is made to learn seld-accountability during that time. Hoping they ease into their adult years simply doesnt work, and never has. They either are responsible, or they are not. Anything in-between is just a head-game played on the parents.
Again, as a PARENT, I would make sure to educate my kids EARLY on how not to be "manipulated" by adults to do something they will regret, whether that be drugs, sex, or criminality. I don't need any law to do that.
It is really sad to see some of these kids. I just can't imagine they have a stable, loving home life. My guess would be that most of these girls have very little involvement by dad. The breakdown of the family leads to the breakdown of society.
>>My guess would be that most of these girls have very little involvement by dad. >>
Agreed. The girls I know that do this have mothers that divorced the father for the sake of independence, then failed to allow the father any real time in their lives. Way to go, mom. You've come a long way, baby!
I want to say something to them, but their mind is so full of pop culture, common sense would appear to be silly, so I don't even bother.
