Its sickens me how we prolong "childhood" in this country. It used to be very common for folks to get married in their teens, if they weren't going to college

Childhood is prolonged in this country?!?! Are you kidding me?!?! We push our kids to be grown up and treat them as grown ups long before we should in this country! These children are proof of that.

Just because it was common for teens to get married in the past doesn't make it a good idea. I speak from experience here. A 16 year old child has no idea what they really want in life because they have no idea what life really is at that age.

... because they have been sheltered and given a period of no-responsibility. No requirement is made to learn seld-accountability during that time. Hoping they ease into their adult years simply doesnt work, and never has. They either are responsible, or they are not. Anything in-between is just a head-game played on the parents.
