LAS VEGAS - The transmogrification is complete. Actress-turned-poker-star Jennifer Tilly has become so infatuated with high stakes Texas Hold 'Em, that for the first time in more than a decade, she's skipped the red carpet of the Oscars for the green felt of the poker table.
"This is the first time in 15 years I haven't attended the Oscar parties or gotten swept up in Oscar fever," Tilly told The Associated Press on Sunday from her suite at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip.
"I haven't even seen 'Brokeback Mountain.' I don't even know who's nominated," she said.

The Oscar live thread should be fun to read as well.
That's too bad. I'm plain in real life too, but I never felt the need to *ahem* endow myself.
Well, whatever makes her happy.
I seem to recall she had breast reduction surgery.
Now I'm extremely cynical!
Or was it the trussed bridges for heavy loads major?
I sense a selfish reason. At the Oscar's she gets overshadowed by hundreds of other actors and actresses more famous than her (with more and/or better movies on their resume). At a Texas Hold Em game, she gets to be the big fish in a small pond.
Of course, this doesn't preclude her and me from having an affair...
Don't forget the lovely Terri Garr {roll, roll.roll in the hay][obscure Frankenstein reference]
Groening did the original animated shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show. The half-hour sit-com version was created by Groeining, Sam Simon, and James Brooks. Tilly gets a chunk of Simpsons money every year for as long as it generates cash.
What was the great line she said;something like,"my legs go from my ass all the way too the ground?
I have the idea that if that movie was released today it would get a lot of attention. Remember, when it came out the trend was toward big, flashy movies and not ensemble casts. The director Whit Stillman is another guy who never got his proper due.
Yeah, something like that. The movie was filled with great lines. "Walking taller Trotter!"
Clarification, Stillman didn't direct Let it Ride, he directed Last Days of Disco, etc.
My best mammary err memory of her is the old TV Series "Key West" where she played Savannah Sumner........
I always wanted to play poker with her.......
you got too many verbs in that line hoss..lol
All action verbs !!
Oy vey.
Hi-lo splits, shared cards, no-peak,, all that stuff is the sisification of poker. I can give 5 reasons per hand why I wouldn't want to bother playing any of it. But wild cards are great. Limiting openers is great. Calling your own hand is great. Dealers choice is great.
Anything that relies partially or wholly on 'pure' chance, to me isn't poker. Splitting the pot with the biggest idiot on the table isn't poker either (For the hi-lo question you posed).
There is a big difference between playing the odds and playing the players.
Maybe I'm a purist, or I take the game too seriously, but I like to play the players. That gives me the oppotunity to trump the odds, every time. But then, I'm not on TV, nor will I sit in with rookies.
Rookies are the most exasperating. They don't even know what their own hand is, let alone if anyone on the table has a better one. If they win, it's pure luck because you can't bluff them off with anything but high bets. They have nothing to decide except how much they might lose or win, so to a rookie, every hand has a 50% chance of winning.
Oh well. I don't play blackjack either. The deck doesn't fear a cold blank stare and it's nose doesn't twitch at the wrong time. :-)
