Cruise and Holmes named "most tiresome"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - And the losers are? Tom Cruise and his fiance Katie Holmes.

Cruise who starred in last year's blockbuster hit "War of the Worlds" and his pregnant partner Holmes won the Razzie award on Saturday for "most tiresome tabloid targets."

The Razzies, which parody self-congratulatory Hollywood award shows such as the Oscars by roasting the worst of Tinseltown, this year added the "most tiresome" category to salute "the celebs we're ALL sick and tired of."

The couple, known as TomKat, won for their tabloid dominance. Cruise professed his love for the actress on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last May where he jumped up and down on a sofa like a man possessed.

Cruise's behavior spawned the slang "jump the couch," meaning the moment when you know someone has gone off the deep end, or as one Razzie presenter put it, "the day when his rabies vaccine ran out."

Cruise then proposed to Holmes in June in Paris and announced their engagement at a news conference, prompting talk it was all a publicity stunt to promote their summer films.

Razzie presenters joked in Hollywood jargon about Holmes' pregnancy, calling it "their first collaboration to go into pre-production."

Cruise, a member of the Church of Scientology which eschews psychiatry, was also roasted for his attack on psychiatry and anti-depressant drugs made on NBC's "Today" show last June.

Brother, I wasn't aware our PM had made any statements on gun ownership in he US. I'd be grateful if you'd point it out to me.

I support genuine shooters' rights, and they are protected in Australia.

I'm buggered if I know what guns have to do with Tom Cruise but if it's allowed you to get something off your chest, then this thread has served a useful purpose!

...blockbuster hit "War of the Worlds"...

Oh, really?

Yes, really. Here at BlockBuster Videos, we take that movie out of the rack and hit it repeatedly with a stick, at least once a day, in an attempt to kill it before it can breed.

Sorry 'bout your luck, chuck.

Someone should start a Jump the Couch site, akin to Jump the Shark.

Katie Holmes was on some t.v. show. Don't know the name of it, but I guess it was popular.

I really like Tom Cruise in "Rainman" and "A Few Good Men". Both were stellar performances, IMO.

To bad he'll be remembered more for being a Scientology nutjob than a good actor.

It's all in the genes, I guess. It sounds like we're both about the same age and mine is still in place. Rapidly turning grey, but still there. I credit it to three strong cups of coffee daily. ;-)

You're right. I also enjoyed Cruise in some roles (but there were some in which I thought he sucked), but now I just think of him as some weirdo cult member. Even John Travolta, who went as far as to do Battlefield Earth, didn't go as far to associate himself with Scientology, so I can still suspend disbelief when I see him.

Yeah, it is the genes. I knew a guy when I was in high school who lost it completely on top by the 12th grade, I mean total horse shoe hair, and his father was completely bald. Same with Patrick Stewart who lost his even earlier I heard, so I shouldn`t complain. I can imagine the assault on the ego losing it at that age. Actually what I should do is get tattooed hair like this lunatic. Gee, it`s sooo lifelike, I can`t tell the difference!

GHI will work on it, but, the gist of Howards statement is that Australia ain't about to go the way of America, where all us fookin, evil, Rednecks, run all the hell all around the place, up to our asses in machine guns! Don't I wish we really did!
Aussie, there is not one damned thing "protected", in your world, other than what the dumbass urban pissants demand!
Whatever the PISSANTS demand, Dasher, is what you best get used to, after all, there are more of them, than there are of you, and, might makes right!
Dasher, y'all had one damned fine reason, for a really good revolution, in the name of Liberty!
History is full, of failed examples!
"Aussie", the only reason your government kicked your arse, is because it is so damned easy!
Back to the chase, I am "American"! I ain't so sure, that your best interests, coincide, with mine!

lol! That comic strip was the best, I don`t know why he stopped drawing them. I think it was because he got sick of the commercial aspect, that they wanted him to go the Garfield route and it drove him nuts.

I have never read a comic strip that was as reliable for a daily laugh as Calvin and Hobbes. There hasn't been a new strip in - what? 10 years? I still miss it.

The only movies I like John Travolta in was "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever." I remember seeing "Grease" in the theater and having the biggest crush on him.

I love both those movies.

It's one thing to be Hollywood liberal, but to be a leftie and a member of Scientology is beyond weirdness.

I wonder what Ms. Holms' parents think of this whole charade. I know my parents would be asking alot of questions if I had a boyfriend as a member of Scientology.

Our Government has never kicked my ass. I've never owned a gun, and most people I know have never owned a gun.

It's a very different culture in Australia. Very few down here believe guns are necessary for maintaining life as we know it. Sporting shooters, farmers and the like are welcome to their sport and necessities of their occupation, but the majority of us just don't see the need to own a gun.

Please don't take this as an attack on the US. Neither my words or those of Mr. Howard are in any meant as a put down of views held in the US. I'm just trying to point out the difference in attitude on this issue between our two nations.

I use to draw comic strips but not professionally. I should get back into that, it would sure beat driving a taxi which is what I`m doing now but I don`t know how successful I would be. I have that same bizarre/sick sense of humor as Calvin, but I don`t draw as good as that guy, he was brilliant. Here`s one picture I have of him... look how basic he worked, a few rulers and that`s it. And look at him, he looks just like Calvins father but without the moustache, right down to the same glasses. Pretty funny putting himself in there.

Here`s one POS I drew a while back. Like I said, I don`t draw that good and forget about the lettering, I think that`s what made me quit, the lettering drove me nuts.
