I think the Western World in general will experience a turbulent period in the next decade.

From 2010 to 2020 or 2006 to 2016? In any case, I think you're right.

We discussed Oswald Spengler recently, didn't we? According to him, we should be in the Age of Nihilism. Not that Spengler is to be trusted as a prophetic authority, but pop culture, academic thought, and general sentiment strongly suggest that we live in such an age.

The question is, as my old Western Studies professor noted, whether or not Western civilization has reached the peak which all of its predecessors did, or will it keep going. Illustrated in graphical form, societal progress would be a series of jagged peaks (not so jagged in some), each one getting higher than the next. There is one thing common to them all: an end.

Probably.

Though I believe it's unclear how it will be turbulent. Both the World War II era and the 1960's were turbulent times, but they differed greatly.

Turbulent has two meanings. It can also mean difficult to see through.

Difficult to make predictions. Difficult to be precise.

Many will rely on past predictions ... prophecies. Many will go with their gut instincts.

I have always thought the course of wisdom was to maximize your options.

Exactly.

“One man with a gun can control 100 without one.” -- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

The reason why socialists and communist Governments are so much against guns.

“While the State exists there can be no freedom; when there is freedom there will be no State.” -- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

The dream of dictators and tyrants.

“All our lives we fought against exalting the individual, against the elevation of the single person, and long ago we were over and done with the business of a hero, and here it comes up again: the glorification of one personality. This is not good at all. I am just like everybody else”. -- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

That is so right. Communism's true core ideology is based on envy and hate. Envy and hate for those who possess property, money, or anything of economic value, which communism claims belongs to the poor. Envy and hate for those individuals who excel. Communism exalts and rewards mediocrity -there shouldn't be anyone better- because this could create a sense of inequality amongst the mediocrities. Nor should an opinion which is determined demeaning to others -hint: minority- be expressed out loud for fear of causing pain and distress to their politically correct mediocre society.

Alas for mediocrity, for it is the mediocre whose dependency on the State has resulted in parasitic societies achieving very little in regards to productivity and success. There is nothing like capitalism to motivate individuals to succeed and excel and a system of government that allows this to happen. --individuals achieving what he/she is capable of doing without the fear of being punished for his/her success.

So far, their performance seems good, but I have yet to grade their essays - that is when things become "interesting".

yep, yep, yep.

on the last note: why else would Leftists so uniformly pervert the line "all men are created equal" into a mandate for equality of outcomes?
