Perhaps the answer lies in your assessment that they are, in fact, 'skilled cooks'.

Ya know? I was going to ask my neighbor the same thing. He's a retired professional chef, and lately, I've been "taking" him to the church socials on the first Fridays of each month.
He wasn't happy that he won the chili cook-off hands down last month...this month, he brought shepherd's pie and Reuben soup. While the pie was pretty good (it had lamb in it, and I'm not a fan of lamb) he had squeezed the potatoes into pretty little frilled domes.
I'm not soup eater, so I wasn't too thrilled with the soup. But this guy is going out and buying special utensils to cook this stuff in, and spending the three days before the event in preparation. MAYBE 50 people showed up.
While the food wasn't exactly "corpse's feet" I found it less appealing than my own "Baked Potato Supper." WTF?

Morning, kids...I think. I don't know how long I'll last today, but I'm here for now.
At least it's Friday...for those whose work-week ends on Friday, that is.

I dunno: it is a puzzlement
why do they believe hellish stenches constitute haute cuisine?
IMO, food should taste like what it IS. It should not stink on the table as it eventually shall in the toilet.

I agree. Feta cheese is a first that comes to mind. Why would I want to put something that smells so foul on something I'm going to eat?
The shepherd's pie LOOKED good, but it was awfully hard to eat. Of course, there were those who fawned all over the guy, telling him something he obviously already thought about himself.
But I'm really a down-home gal...simple food and plenty of it. No one has ever left my table hungry and I've seldom had leftovers. I think you'd have a good time at my table!

Gyro? I'll take a large TOGO'S Reuben, myself. To each, his own. Are the Reubens any good?

Good to hear that wee Vlad is on the mend. Did you have a chance to put him out in the sun yesterday?

Good morning!
We're expecting unusually high temperatures today so, we're going to speed through what is left of the backlogged tests and go outside to enjoy sunshine, fresh air, and yard work!
My children adore me.
How are all of you?

LOL!
My friend in Utah said her hubby bought her some "bing cherries from Chile" and she ate them while she was watching the snow fall in her back yard last week. She said it brought a childhood summer to her almost instantly.
I suspect that's not exactly what you're thinking, right?

Good morning, I'm off to work in the library. Been drowning myself in Irish traditional music and writing religious songs to the tunes for the last week...a strange occupation, I know...but I want to say hello! And you and all are in my thoughts...
