The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You can take him in either place. He'll do fine, it'll be a learning experience :~D

I'm thinking I'll also keep an eye out on Craigslist for free or very cheap twin beds.

There's actually someone on Craigslist here looking for someone to ~drive~ a bedframe from Seattle to Richmond. Maybe you could head 'em off at the pass...

I figure - antique, family squabble, that kind of thing...or ~really good~ "sheetrock"...

It's apparently worth moving, but he'd rather send it with a stranger across country than pay to ship it.

Three weeks.

In three weeks we will absolutely know something. It's gonna be a real hard pill to swallow if they make him keep going into the summer.

His family is coming down for the graduation and he'll probably walk it anyway, but it sure would be nice to know he's done when he did.

I think he was hopin' free ride. I can't find the ad tho. Apparently it's been pulled...

The Missus should be able to find something among the homeschool families.

Wow, that sounds like great fun! Aren't two of your brothers in CA? The other one can't get off to come visit?

I can't decide if I'm really, really looking forward to the summer at home, or not. It'll be great to see the family again of course.

Yeah, John and Bill are both in CA. Bill *might* come...if he does, he'll be flying up, but he's not sure if that'll work or not.

Be nice if he could get away for a bit.

And your dad came up with this plan? Or at least is going along with it? The guy you told me so many times hates travel?

He must really miss you guys.

We're back! I went to Petsmart, as I wasn't *quite* satisfied with the chain collar I'd gotten him the day I picked him up - I guesstimated his size, and I shouldn't have. He ended up needing the next size down.

He was mostly pretty good, albeit a little bouncy and wanting to play with every dog in sight. Now he's chewing the bone I got him, so I guess that was a successful pick. ;-) Also got him some tennis balls and a brush and bowl and all.

They had containers for dog food there, but they were mightily expensive. I went over to Tar-zhay insteada, and got a big Rubbermaid container for five bucks. Not pretty, but it works just fine.

Yeah, Dad came up with it.

I think he really wants to see his granddaughter, for one. ;-) I can't wait to see them together. He's awful cute with babies. If that isn't totally wrong for me to say...

Fair enough.... sounds good :~D

I haven't had mice chew through the plastic ones I've got, and one of them is in the barn with the birdseed in it.

Well, I suppose you're gonna be wantin' to get to work soon... let me know. :~D
