Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Through shadows to the edge of night
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Well, we missed the first bus and were done before the second bus got there, so nobody got sprayed. ;-)
My favorite thing to do is when they're in my driveway waiting for the bus in the morning...they stand right up by my garage door! Sometimes they actually play basketball, hitting it up against the garage door. I like to raise the door and take the trash out *right then*! You can see 'em take off running, it startles them so bad! I just smile sweetly at them and say "Good morning!" pushing the trash bin out to the road in my house coat and house shoes!
I haven't been able to do it in a long time though, 'cause the door's been busted. But it's almost as fun as chasing squirrels.
These are junior high kids...probably the same ones that stole my mailbox and egged the house of the elderly couple next door. I don't think they're the ones that went through our cars that night...I suspect that it was one of their parents though.

No.
I like my neighbor across the street and I like the elderly couple and there's a couple just down from us that is nice. My neighbor next door to us drives his motorcycle through our front yard and has put ruts all in our yard. It's quicker than taking the street to his drive, I guess.
We don't live in that great of a neighborhood. Low-rent houses, mostly. The kids run in gangs. Not "street gangs" per say, but I fear that it's just a matter of time.

Heh...he'd probably sue me.
The thing is...we're good neighbors...don't allow our kids to disturb anyone's property. I make the jedis keep reasonably quiet. My initial thought was "Why did he do that? What did we do to him to cause him to do that to us?" But then my next thought was he probably didn't see anything wrong with it.
The kids waiting for the bus will be out in our driveway shooting hoops in our basketball net and yelling and hollering at 7:30am! They don't even know us! Maybe I'm old-fashioned or maybe I'm a grump...but I always thought if you were going to play in someone's yard, you should at least ask first...unless it was someone you knew well and knew they wouldn't mind. I'm pretty sure it never even occurred to them to ask.
I want my little bit of land.
I'm off to bed! Night all!

Just reporting back in about the knife I got last year. This is the prime time for grafting fruit trees, and that knife is almost "too sharp", but works like a champ.
I grafted several trees this past weekend and I found a winner with that knife. Now I have my designated grafting knife, instead of having to find a fairly sharp one or sharpen one of my pocket knives.
Thanks again.
