Man Dies Following Argument Over Dog Urine
CBS 47 ^ | 2/20/2006

A New York City man died after he got in an argument with a neighbor over his miniature schnauzer urinating on the neighbor's azaleas.

Eighty-five-year-old Otto Mittler was walking his dog Max, who urinated on the bushes at the end of the driveway. Then 84-year-old Joseph Marsala grabbed a garden hose and sprayed the dog with water, resulting in Mittler charging the neighbor, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

He came at me like gangbusters, Marsala said. He gave me a shot to the jaw and I shoved him. He went down.

Mittler broke his hip Wednesday and died Friday following surgery, a police source told the News.

Police are investigating the case. An autopsy has been ordered.

Very sad story...how much damage can a miniature dog do to an Azelea bush, for goodness sakes?

85 and 84, lots of piss and vinegar left in those two at that age, sorry to hear it had to end for both of them this way.

Well, seems like one of them was pissed...

From a legal prospective he's screwed. He's facing assault and Homicide charges;he'll also be screwed financially for a wrongful death suit. Defending your dog is not a valid defense for murder. The best he can hope for is that its gets downgraded to manslaughter.

From reading the article, he was defending himself.

Especially when you are defending your dog from the trauma of being sprayed with a water hose.

Yep, it's getting out of hand. Last night there was a thread about two old broads getting into a fight over a cat where one of them ended up dead. Now, it's two even older guys fighting to the death over dog piss.
