Seattle coach laments having to ‘take on the guys in the striped shirts, too

DETROIT - No appreciation or consolation in Seattle for the Seahawks, at least not yet.

Nope, they were still stuck in frustration.

The post-Super Bowl parties went into early Monday morning as the Seahawks at least tried to celebrate their season, instead of their somber Sunday. Later, coach Mike Holmgren tried to refocus the team, momentarily, on what it had done and what it still may do.

(Snip) –

And the Seahawks were still stinging from a few officials’ calls that went against them, such as Darrell Jackson’s touchdown catch that was taken away by a penalty and a disputed TD run by Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger.

“We knew it was going to be tough going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Holmgren told the fans at Qwest Field. “I didn’t know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well.”

Hey, FRiend, the Super Bowl ain't an opinion poll. It's a sports matchup, and your boys tanked.

With all due respect, I watched that game too - and that is childish. Holmgren should have been more of a man than that - the calls were only mildly questionable - Seattle had several go their way too, and you didn't hear Cowher whining. As a matter of fact, when the officials in the game against the Colts blatantly took away an interception, Cowher made a point of NOT criticizing the officials.

Took him 2 days after his statements to issue an apology. Shouldn't you give Holmgren the same opportunity? Or are you just another blowhard?

Perhaps you are way too invested in living vicariously?

Agree completely. I have never initiated any disrespect of Holmgren. I have posted a picture of him in obvious distress, with the list of the five stages of grief, as a shot all the people who have initiated an avalanche of undeserved disrespect towards the Steelers. As must be pretty obvious by now, I'm a rabid die-hard Steeler fan, and have been one since my first memories of playing street/backyard football with my friends, in Pittsburgh, in the early 1960's. Though technically, the first game I remember watching is the "Immacualte Reception" game.

As I'm sure any FReeper can agree with and respect, I'm supportive of my home town, and take a lot of civic pride in where I come from. All the way from family/house/street/neighborhood/city/county/state/country/planet I have a paternal instinct.

So let me just put it this way... please accept my apologies for being such a rabid "bite-backer." I do love the Steelers organization, and the Rooney family, and the entire city of Pittsburgh. When I see them being attacked it's my instinct to fight back. But I do regret giving the impression that I want to hurt feelings. For that I'm sorry.

GO STILLERS!
