What counts as 'news'? (FR Mod Question - VANITY)
Me ^ | 2-1-06 | Me

Posted on 02/01/2006 12:39:17 PM PST by FreedomNeocon

I am just curious what the rules are here.

Having a post moved from 'news' to 'blogging' in particular... why would that happen if the story was NOT from a blog.

Yet I see fake editorials and polls from the NYT in 'news' all the time.

Anyway, just curious it is only a mod's personal feelings about a news site that determines what is 'news' and what is not.

Thx.

Your post does not count as news.

Oh yeah, obviously the post that got moved was 'deemed' not news by someone since it was moved.

No biggie.

I just would rather not post, or post in the proper place than have it moved, so I was asking... thats all.

Ughh...I feel for you. I think the mods might have a "Hit List" of people that if they post ANYthing in news, they yank to to Bloggers on purpose. And I'm at the top of that list.

I am afraid that some day, if the question of bloggers 1st Amendment rights goes to court, that the leftist will use the fact that conservative online forums like FR seperate 'news' from 'blogs' as evidense that 'bloggers' are not journalists and as such have no protections.

A FReepmail to the Mods or JimRob would be sufficient, don't you think?

Take heart.

My FReeping hours are usually evenings and weekends.

I catch the "moved to chat or bloggers" virus nearly every time I post on Sunday.

Just one of those things.

The rules ain't what they used to be. And FR is poorer for it.

I draw cartoons and post them on FR. I started out posting them in News, but because of that, I think the mods have a special eye out for me.

I have to post the toons in General/chat. No one cares what goes on there. And there's more people there than Bloggers.

Generally, any news from an official source gets posted under "news." Breaking news is reserved for just that, and the rest goes under extended news. Eyewitness stuff can go under news, or reliable third party source stuff.

If an editorial would be considered newsworthy then post it under news. This would be things like op/ed pieces written by pols, or stuff that really impacts the news. It would not include op/ed pieces about gardening or poodles.

You're being far too reasonable for this crowd.

Why don't you ask the mods - instead of taking up bandwith for this stupid vanity.

This is a personal site - it's not a news bureau.

Had you taken the time to read the Home page of the website - all your questions might have been answered.
