Generally, any news from an official source gets posted under "news." Breaking news is reserved for just that, and the rest goes under extended news. Eyewitness stuff can go under news, or reliable third party source stuff.

If an editorial would be considered newsworthy then post it under news. This would be things like op/ed pieces written by pols, or stuff that really impacts the news. It would not include op/ed pieces about gardening or poodles.

Ok, well then who desices what is an 'official source'? CNN, NYT? What about MEMRI, what about New York Post, what about web only news like newsmax or slate, what about 'intel' sites like TerrorismWatch.org, Geostrategy-direct, globalsecurity.org, and debka? What about MEGA-blogs like RegimeChangeIran? Again... only asking.
