I wouldn't get anywhere near a bear with anything less than a 44 mag. And some damn hot custom loads.

Heard an interview with the director a while back - one interesting tidbit I recall is that ol' Timmy and his girlfriend had the cameras rolling when they had their final encounter. Apparently there's no video, but there is an extremely graphic audio recording of the attack from their camera, which the director decided not to put in the documentary.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing when this ad came on.

Abject, dangerous stupidity. YOU DON'T ANTHROPOMORPHIZE GRIZZLY BEARS.

Thanks for the heads up, jordan. I actually really wanted to see this movie. I'll definitely be sure to tune in!

Treadwell to me is the classic example of the tragic consequences of the liberal mindset. He envisioned himself as someone "PROTECTING THE BEARS" when the bears did not need protecting (no hunting is allowed in the Katmai National Park, and there is no development there, either). In the end, it cost him everything.

Saw this at a theater a few months back. The best part was when an Alaskan bush pilot was interviewed saying that most Alaskans "though he was a moron."

I just rented this on DVD.

Treadwell knew he was putting himself in danger, knew he'd probably be killed at some point. Other people told him that he was a fool and warned him.

Obviously the guy had a lot of "issues".

I guess the interesting thing is that he did learn a lot about griz behavior, and was able to use it for 13 seasons of filming while keeping himself alive.

Werner Herzog did a great job with the documentary (he's a renowned German filmmaker). About half the film is Treadwell's own footage from the wilderness, alone with bears and talking to his camera. The other half is Herzog interviewing people who were close to Treadwell (both critics and fans). I was relieved that Herzog didn't include the attack audio in the film, although he did let Treadwell's ex-girlfriend listen to it, which sent her into tears.

There are also a few surprises which I won't reveal, showing that Treadwell wasn't everything he seemed, and often very conscious of his cult status.

Herzog generally treats Treadwell with respect, but in his inimitable filmmaking style he leaves you shaking your head at the folly of Treadwell's enterprise, recognizing that it's flawed and doomed, yet deserving some kind of respect for its audacity.

A very decent film.

Does anyone think there might be a market for a Timmy Treadwell inaction figure?

Watching "Grizzly Man". Whoever said he had "issues" made a tremendous understatement. He was "out there". Perhaps somewhere on the other side of Pluto.

Folks, you need to tape this one. My sides still ache this morning from laughing so hard. I was fine until they got to the part about 'ol Timmy's first job being at "Nick's Pansy Farm", and I lost it from then on. This absolutely hands down beats anything that Hollywierd has produced in the last 20 years. It is that entertaining.

They didn't air the audio of him being eaten, and the six minutes it took for the scraming and moaning to stop, but the interviews with the bush pilots who cleaned up leaves you no doubt about how brutally the bear savaged Timmy and his girlfriend.

Deeply disturbing in that he was allowed access to children with his tripe. One can only hope that his profanity was edited out before he presented it to school children. And it is quite apparant that this looie-tune equated himself as a peer with God. Well, God got the last laugh, didn't he Timmy? He granted Timmy 13 years to be sure that being eaten alive was his preferred way to die.

That said, this Documentary about a Documentary is a keeper. This validates every word that has ever been spoken about Environmental Wackos, vegans, ELF, ALF, Pansies, and those who love them. Truly a must see.

I am still waiting to see who the Freeper will be that owns up to sending the letter about feeding more Libs and Dems to bears, and raising more grizzlies to ship off to Berkeley...

Whoever sent that ought to deeply proud of themselves...

This looks more like a mocumentary to me--like "Best in Show" or "Waiting for Guffman". A lot of things don't look right to me in this documentary. I spend 2 weeks in the AK bush every year and none of my partners nor myself look so fresh after the first few days. We all look greasy, weather beaten and worn. Here are some thoughts.

No autopsy photograph. No audio tape. Both people cremated (untraceable). No still photos.

Why was all the footage recent?

Re: the touching scene with the watch, how could it look so good? Talk about taking a licking!

His clothes were never dirty, or never looked worn. He was always clean shaven. If he was out in the bush for so long, why wasn't his face weather beaten?

The people interviewed in the movie looked like posed, comic actors. Even the coroner looked and acted like a goof.

It's entirely possible that the documentary maker simply didn't know what he was doing, but then again, these lefties never make fun of their own. I'll look at GMan again, but I'm not convinced it isn't a spoof.

Discovery played an encore during the past weekend.

Animal Rights Activists play such a double standard. In regards to dangerous animals, they say we shouldn't apply human values to them. (i.e. if a shark chomps your arm, its just nature, don't judge sharks).

However, if human development threatens wildlife, the Greens say "Cute bunnies are going to die."
