Clooney to revive 80s tv icon (Hollywood outdoes itself ruining Magnum PI)

George Clooney is being hotly-tipped to play Magnum PI in a new movie.

Film bosses believe the handsome star would be perfect as the suave private investigator, played by Tom Selleck in the classic TV show.

A source is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying:

"He is a big fan of the original series. The part is his if he wants it." Meanwhile, George - who split from on/off girlfriend Lisa Snowdon last year - recently revealed he thinks 2006 will be the year he settles down.

The 44-year-old heartthrob - renowned for keeping his romantic life under wraps - said: "I want to be married with six kids this year. I want six little sextuplets around."

The star also admitted he believes in love at first site, saying: "It happened to my parents. My dad asked my mum on a date and asked her to marry him immediately.

"They're still together so I know love at first sight can work."

I'm all for TS playing the part as he originally did! None of this Gclooney business. And...who calls their mom mum when you're raised in America? If he'd been raised in England...fine...but America? Ick to Gclooney.

Going to TV is a great move George. Sort of like going from a CEO to a mail clerk.

Tom Selleck is twice the man you are George! We don't know what his political opinions are but you cry retreat like a baby with yours!

End Rant!

I wouldn't mind Dukes of Hazzard II starring only Jessica Simpson as a lifeguard.

Nothing "cheesy" about Magnum PI. Great show, where characters evolved and progressed (but without long arcs). It was one of the first shows to portray Vietnam vets in a sympathetic light..

Look at his record. He's had four movies make over $100 million: Batman and Robin; A Perfect Storm; Oceans 11 and Ocean's 12.

The first was a franchise--he didn't make it that money. In fact, his entry killed the franchise until last year.

A Perfect Storm was a huge bestseller--he didn't make it a hit, the scale and subject matter did.

Ocean's 11 and 12 were ensemble pieces and remakes.

George is a multimillionaire who can't make a hit. Of course he needs to rely on yet another person's success, as with those four movies above, to keep up the illusion that he's a box office draw.

Check out the other movies on that link, the original projects in which he is central. Compare their box office with their production costs, and womder about the bizarre minds running Hollywood.

starring only Jessica Simpson as a lifeguard.

Lifeguard? I was hope she'd be cast as a nudist.

First thing you oughta do is actually watch the TV series. If they think Magnum was suave, they never watched the show. The character was constantly messing up, running through cases like a bull in a China shop. Suave would not be close to an accurate description of Magnum.

Um, we know quite well what Selleck's political views are. After Clint Eastwood, he's hollywood's ranking Republican.

I was silent when they released Saved a couple of years ago.
I said nothing when they aired the blasphemous Book of Daniel.
I stood by when they cast outspoken homosexual activist Chad Allen in End of the Spear.

But I can remain silent no longer. How dare they desecrate the memory of Magnum PI!!

"(happy birthday Tom), and, yes, he could still kick George Clooney's ass."

Ditto!!

I wish Selleck had some sort of rights to that character. To have Clooney play Magnum is an abomination to say the least.

Isn't there a rule around here about mentioning people like Jessica Simpson and pictures? Who is this Jessica Simpson person? What does she look like?

He's at least second to Bruce Willis. :)
