My sympathies to the both of you-Knitting is right about the garlic-and if you don't like the taste of garlic, you can buy the odorless, tasteless caps. I cook with a lot of fresh garlic and I've been taking 4 or 5 garlic caps daily for years, and I'm convinced they help prevent infections-garlic is also supposed to be good for keeping your cholesterol and blood pressure lower. It is also good to increase your intake of vitamin C and other antioxidants during the winter months. End of lecture on natural infection prevention...

I haven't had to cut grass until late March/early April since we moved here-I hope this year is no different. We have only native grass and bermuda, which doesn't grow all that fast-but this is an acre lot, not level, on the edge of a cliff and too many rocks for a mower to be used-you have to use a weedeater and load it with industrial strength stringline, and it takes 5-6 hours to do. The 2-2 1/2 acre lots we are looking at up the road are all more level on the building/yard sites and there is much more tree cover than we have here-vegetation won't grow so fast in the shade. A riding mower can also be used on most of that property both in the fenced and unfenced areas.

I had a sudden mental picture of hubby careening down the slope toward the cove on a riding mower run amok on one of those lots just like our next door neighbor did last summer, but hubby isn't dumb enough to go that close to where the ground gets uneven, unlike the neighbor.

I felt so sorry for hubby last year...........by the time he would get the entire property mowed, it was time to start all over again.

That was when I was out of commission last summer, he just didn't have the necessary time to devote to cutting it all in one day because he was also carrying all my chores that I couldn't get to.

Fun is trying to mow with a lawnmower that had a 2 cycle engine when I am allergic to the fumes. I now have an electric lawn mower for emergencies when someone else won't do it...and our yard is fairly small.

I always envy women with a husband who does chores and cooks well-If I'd been married to my hubby when I broke my ankle years ago, my house would have been declared a disaster area within a week-the man can't even handle laundry and grocery shopping-definately short on the domestic skills.

I use an electric weedeater, and I have to use a 100 and a 50 ft. extension cord and plug into 6 different outside outlets as I move around the yard. I'd probably run over my own extension cord with an electric mower.

I rarely do any of the lawnmowing chores..........I did it for a living as a kid in the summer, in Florida........

LOL!!!!

My ex was totally anal about domestic chores - if he ran the vacuum once a day he ran it 6 or more times a day. But he couldn't boil water.

our yard is about a 45 degree slope, it wouldn't be safe for a riding mower. the lawnboys use the stand-on kind of mower and go up and down diagonally. T5, your yard and that story of your neighbor going over the edge was scary as crap. xshub is helpful, he can do laundry. he CAN grocery shop, but only if i want to go the next day because he buys the .25 lb of ham, as you will recall!

Our place is just about completely flat, and with well over an acre that must be mowev, a riding mower is an absolute must.

Hubby is actually looking forward to how much tilling I am going to be needing done, because it will then be that much less that will need to be mowed.

Just the thought of the space needed for the raspberry bushes and strawberry plants I have ordered has him practically down right giddy :)

Well coolbreeze has ruined his perfect record of going to the store on his way home from work, and so now I do have to go tomorrow. I only asked for 3 things, dog food, cat food and cigarettes. He didn't forget anything.......he forgot to stop altogether. I have enough animal food for them all for the morning, so I'll go at some point, I didn't have the heart to send him back out.

If sent grocery shopping, my hubby also gets a fraction of the amount of an item needed, unless it is canned ripe olives-and he buys a 6 months supply of those-and he doesn't know one cut of meat from another, either.

If we do build on one of those bigger lots, I'm going to do the same as Gabz and have a huge garden space tilled-there is a dearth of variety in the fresh vegetables for sale up here, so I see a need I can fill. I hadn't thought about the extra, added benefit of less yard to mow.

Hubby says he is not hurting any more and is downstairs organizing the work he brought home to do-he quit taking the supermotrin yesterday and switched to over-the-counter Advil. Since he is doing so well, I called my customer and told her I could bring the materials for her job over this morning, so I'm going to do that now-hubby needs the computer for his work, too, and if I don't get away from here for a few hours, I'll run mad-I'll come to class later...

The only thing my husband is good for is junk food runs, and I don't eat much of that at all. He will buy cleaning stuff though, as a chemical engineer he loves that stuff. rme He buys cleaners I won't use. Cuts of meat are way beyond his ability to pick out. He knows nothing about getting a meal together. I was sick yesterday and his idea of fixing a meal is calling the local pizza place for a couple of subs.

I haven't mowed the lawn since I was pregnant with the daughter and she is 21 now. My allergies went haywire that summer. The boys did it for many years, and the husband does it now. The only exercise he gets is mowing all spring, summer and fall - so I do not feel the least little bit guilty. We have a rider and a hand mower. The trim and front yard he does with the hand mower, the rest with the rider. ;)
