OK, new thread for the next week.

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 512 processors and 220 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over a dozen folders now from GetLoaded.com all popping onto the hit list this week.

We now have ten members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Klutz Dohanger, Malsua, Ken in Texas, Andrewksu, LSimpson, kingu, Uriah, arderenne and rach_FR have all reached this milestone. Papasmurf and Senator Bedfellow will join them this next week. Great job!

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 132 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of CPUs folding for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Next month I should be able to put together 5-6 more, just need some misc. pieces. (big KVM mainly)

Grrrr, came down this morning to find the surge protector tripped on one of my older machines. Reset it, went to restart the machine, and got the lovely pop sound and ozone smell that says "fried PSU".

So since my smurf quest is temporarily handicapped, lemme make a suggestion about your headless machines - instead of KVM switches, have you thought about using VNC type software? I personally use Ultr@VNC for my headless boxes, and it's much neater than KVM switches - I can put the things anywhere in the house, don't have to flip a switch, and so forth. Check it out.

I think one of the values of this forum is no matter where you are on the "geek" scale, someone is willing to help out, offer a suggestion or pitch a solution.

There are a lot of VNC implementations - I like UltraVNC because it has a mirror hook driver built in, which speeds up connections when it's running at both ends. Plus, it has an RC-4 plugin for encrypted connections - VNC is unencrypted by default. So you can open the port at your firewall/router if needed, and securely get into your machine from anywhere in the world. Nice for road warriors.

As for your wife, just explain...no, tell her that you're the man of the house, dangit, and if you want to do this, why gosh darn it woman, you're gonna go out and do it, and you don't need anyone else's permission. And after you do that, I can put you up in the spare room for a couple of days until she cools down :)
