The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's not exclusive to boys.

I'm waiting for the day Becky starts complaining about me dropping her off right in front of the school where all her friends can see me in all of my glorious un-coolness.

*grin*

They salvaged the bell, did you know? They actually replaced it with another bell with the names of those that went down with the ship. I think it's illegal now to dive down to it.

You don't think we could get your church group to come help? It is something of a disaster area ;~D

I went over and talked to Richard at the store... he said his dad was putting in new light fixtures and outdoor security lights, and would put new vinyl tile in the main bathroom which presumably means he'll fix the part of the floor that's ~gone~ too :~D

When dad leaves, I'll go check on what he did. :~D

Actually....

Almost all Southern Baptist Associations have service project ministries. No kidding, our church just recently went clear down one long street in BA and repaired and painted the fences in the subdivision there. Gratis. It doesn't matter what faith (if any) you are...it's a commandment to us that we're to love one another and that's how we do it.

It's pretty stunning to people. Heh heh!

For example, if I find my neighbor has a leaky roof, I can call our association and they'll send someone out to fix it. No questions asked, no hard sell.

This is your regional convention.

There should be a more local association of churches too...what town do you live in again?

Pingin' 2J to your post, as requested. ;-)

That would leave just the stove, right? And that's not such a big deal, I wouldn't think.

I ~really~ need a Florida room built on the back of Castle Stormhands. And I wouldn't want to deny someone the blessing of installing a hot tub to go along with it...

Yeah, I read some stories about it this past fall because it was the 30th anniversary of her sinking.

You know... I'm not sure that's how it works, but if it is I want in on it.

But it could work...

I'm still struggling with feelings of failure here

Please stop because you are *anything* but. You are brave and bold and living out a great adventure. You are constantly pushing past your comfort zone. You have been places and done things that lots and lots of sad, provincial little people would never dream of doing.

When Big'ol and I were moving in to our new neighborhood we struck up a conversation with a neighbor. We asked him by way of polite small talk, "Are you from around here?" And to our minds "around here" could be Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, etc. He shook his head with a firm no and named a town that is four exits down on I-95. To me, it is sad that his whole world is so small.

You, on the other hand, are living large and seeing the world. Keep at it. Keep seeing new places, doing new things, driving down new roads. And don't dispair .... you're gonna have awesome neighbors.

Oh - I'm sure he'll fix the stove too.

If it's not done when you move in... because it has to be ordered or is hard to find, I've got a plug in burner you can use.
