The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Woohooo! My collards sprouted!

All but seventy-two of my radishes have sprouted (over 300) and my garlic is already 2" tall!

I got rutabaga and beet seeds today.

I hope the weather holds! It's only a few weeks till the planting season starts anyway! I'm a little early...maybe the row-covers will help.

Hi there! So is Erin enjoying the homeschooling? Sounds like y'all have been really busy! We're on the downhill slope now. Clare is doing some History that she needs the credits for, she needs to do some Phys Ed., and she's enrolled in a Eng. Comp. class at the Community college. Turns out, the husband of a friend of mine teaches the class. He used to teach at St. John's high school, and our #2 son, David, had him in his Junior year. David says he was a tough teacher; Clare is a little nervous. ;o) But she's on schedule to 'graduate' in late June.

Me too. The only thing that stops me now is that it would be nice to pick one out together.

Ah...OK. My first guess from her description was that it was a pointer of some sort. They are pretty!

Pet adoption agencies should ask about other pets you have, and then test your potential pet for any aggressive tendencies. We were delayed a day in adopting Gyps 'cause they hadn't tested her around cats. She passed with flying colors, and, outside of 'resource guarding' she and the cats get along fine. LSA

Huh...I didn't know they did that! That's very cool.

I expect a bit of boundery setting at first - lots of hissing and barking, most likely. But I'd be really afraid of bringing a totally unknown adult dog into a household if there was even the slightest chance they might see cats as prey. Not good.

I know this doesn't really belong on a thred like this, but I was so mad at this, I had to rant or kick in the TV screen!

There was a rant thread about this....someone's swearing off History Channel forever.

I think these days most dogs have been raised around cats, and fear them, because while dogs are taught to be nice, cats aren't... ;~D

So while there's always a tendency for a dog to chase anything new that runs, usually if you control the environment at first, they get over those initial reflexes.

I hope the weather holds for you, too. But what on earth are you going to do with all those radishes????

I'm still in the catalog oggling phase. Got a new one today: The Cook's Garden.
