What about "Drift Away" the Uncle Kracker version for Taylor? Not sure if it would count since the original was released much earlier. Fits his voice well though.

But "Best of You" would only go to reinforce the "he just shouts" crowd about Chris.

I thought the same thing when I heard it. That he would need to not shout.

I would think that each of them already have pre made lists for as many categories and they could come up with, prior to getting there.

Sheryl Crow, “Soak Up The Sun”

This is the only one I even know... no way can I recommend songs this week. I haven't been current on popular music in about 10 years.

I still think Hicks could do a bang up job with Rob Thomas' "This Is How a Heart Breaks". The only down side is that he might want a slower song this week. But, I hope he doesn't go too slow.

Chris Isaac - *sigh*. His cover of "Solitary Man" is fantastic. I would love to see him in concert sometime.

Every once in a while PBS runs one of his concerts. It seems like it would be a blast. He's really funny.

Can we add Dolly Parton to the list of judges?

YES!! Dolly would be great! I think she would win Simon over in a heartbeat.

Completely off topic story, I work with a guy who is from the same part of TN that she is from. All the teenagers there work at Dollywood in the summer. He said that she goes there all the time just to mingle with people, but she wears her natural hair and no make up. No one ever recognizes her because she looks so different. I thought that was interesting.

I would love to see her without the hair and makeup.! She has such a super personality, I bet her and Simon would be fun to watch. :)

Just thought everyone would like to watch this. Hope the link works:http://www.idolonfox.com/videos/?vid=183

I seriously don't think Barry Manilow is gay. He had to apologize to the homosexual organizations for saying (during a concert) that he was not going to sing a love song to one of his guests (who was a man) b/c "that would be creepy." He has also been asked if he was gay and he said "No." and that he would not answer that question again.

Thank you for saying this.

No matter what anyone says, he's a great teacher, and elevated Tuesday's show to an amazing level.

My favorite song of his is "One Voice".
Thank you for being that one voice.

How about U2's "Vertigo"--It's mainstream rock, but if Chris could do it justice he might tear the roof off the place :o

That would be really great!

Gwne Stefani, “Hollanback Girl”

I love this song and bought the CD. They cut it on the radio, but every other word is sh!t. So, they would have to alter the lyrics a bit for network TV.

Beautiful Day by U2 is a great suggestion, too.

I am amazed by his talent and graciousness. I think it is unfair to label him like that with no evidence whatsoever.

BTW, How can you possibly choose a favorite song?!

Went and listened to Norah Jones' 'Don't Know Why'. Katharine could probably do that one very well.

"One Voice" just speaks to me, I guess.
I admire gutsy thinkers. Too few these days.

No matter what anyone says, he's (ie: Barry Manilow) a great teacher, and elevated Tuesday's show to an amazing level.

A mark of a great teacher and a true master of their trade is someone who can inspire and train their students to reach a higher level than they, themselves do. Because of Manilow's wonderful work with the Idols, most of them would now knock him off the show as far is singing ability goes.

He reminded our generation and taught younger performers and listeners what it is to love music and to really touch someones soul with a song.

As far as the performances, Kelly was a hoot...the next Suzanne Somers, only with singing? Mandesa is great, Taylor reminds me of Eddie Money in concert (now there's a must-see show), and Paris is just adorable when she does dress-up like that.

I'd love to see Stevie Nicks in the judges seat, and working with them. She's really nice on stage, and a wonderful talent.

The difference is Suzanne was an act and had very good comedic timing. Kelly is just, well Kelly.

Marie Osmond
Donny Osmond
Stevie Nicks

...and in the total druggie/train-wreck category we have:

retrokitten, you were nominated, but I don't know in which category you wish to be included. Hopefully you're not a train wreck nominee!!!

Did I miss anyone? (Please ping me with suggestions so I don't have to search the thread. Thanks.)

He reminded our generation and taught younger performers and listeners what it is to love music and to really touch someones soul with a song.

He certainly knows how to "sell" a song, doesn't he.

I love the way he works with the Idol contestants, to show them that it's not enough for them to feel the song themselves -- they have to be able to project the message and make the audience feel it, too.

We had a design teacher in college, a real tough nut, who drove that point home, over and over.
