You know... if I were scoring Barry Manilow on his perfromance last night, he'd have been middle of the pack, at best. The man knows how to arrange a song (maybe better than anyone out there), but he's always been a marginal singer, and hasn't improved with age.

NOOOO....it must be a washed up female pop star! I don't know about "pop", but washed-up and whacked-out sounds like a perfect description of Barbra Streisand....

Even Ace could try some Orbison, because Roy had a very high voice. Ace doesn't have the support for it. I was once told, the correct way to sing tenor is to sing it like a bass, just higher.

Actually, Kathy Griffin would be fun. She's be soo off-the wall outrageous, she'd make Simon look like a nice guy. Is that that red haired obnoxious comedienne?

Pickler is a total fake - I cannot stand that shrew. Every week she gets more phony. Carrie was genuine I'm not so sure Carrie was all that genuine. But even if she weren't, Carrie pulled off the act better, is better looking, and has a much better voice.

Is that that red haired obnoxious comedienne? Yup. She'd be laugh-out-loud vicious at the most pretentious contestants. (The Gherkin would be so thrashed by her, it'd be a riot...)

It reminds me of the class clown who gets people to laugh, and it's cute at first, but they don't know when to quit and it just goes on and on. That's exactly right. Perfect comparison.
I bet when she made that "ballsy" comment last night, a few of the other singers groaned silently. She's wearing thin with everybody.

"Tell him he was really good. I just listened to the songs without watching and his song was really good. I am so relieved he was safe."
Elliot is my favorite. He's like a young Tony Bennett, he can sing anything. I think he worries about hitting the right notes too much - his singing is excellent, he just needs to feel the emotions of the song, as Barry Manilow told him.

Kevin's OUT!
*doing a little Happy Dance* :) I'm glad he's gone too--he didn't belong in the finals. But I feel kinda sorry for Pee Wee. He probably built all this up in his swelled head and now its popped :o
I agree with what someone else said. He has a much better chance becoming a TV personality (like Kimberly Caldwell) than becoming a singer.

NOOO! She has a voice like Hillary Clinton. I couldn't take it. Just think of what smack-down she's lay on The Gherkin or G'Ace, though. That's be worth the price of admission right there. (Have you ever heard her riff on "Clay Gayken"?)

NOOO! She has a voice like Hillary Clinton. I couldn't take it. I can't stand her either. She was in a couple of Seinfeld episodes and when they come on I change the channel.

She was in a couple of Seinfeld episodes and when they come on I change the channel. Was she the one that wouldn't stop talking and finally Jerry said, "SHUT-UP!" I can certainly understand that. She's one of the most obnoxious people I've ever seen.

She did a couple. In one she plays a comedienne and mocks Jerry in her skit. He gets mad and calls her to tell her to not do that and she uses that in her next skit and then she tapes him and plays that in one her skits. In another I think she brings back bbq sauce for Jerry, from one of her trips. He had wanted a specific one, it went with one of his skits and he was going to use it on a show. I don't recall if it was CArson or Leno. Anyway, she brings back a different brand because she thought it was a better sauce or something.
I find her annoying and her voice is grating. She does a commercial, I'm not sure what the comercial is for, some kind of food or drink item I think. I either go do something else or change the channel when it comes on.

So what are you all thinking about for song choices for these contestants? I'm not as versed in post 2000 music as I could be. Here's a list from Esquire Magazine on the best songs of the 21st century. I know some of these and I'm not impressed. Thoughts?
Eminem, Lose Yourself
Gwne Stefani, Hollanback Girl
System OF A Down, Chop Suey!
Modest Mouse, Float On
Kanye West, Jesus Walks
Dixie Checks, Landslide
Norah Jones, Dont Know Why
Franz Ferdinand, Take Me Out
Coldplay, Clocks
Beck, The Golden Age
Maroon 5, She Will Be Loved
White Stripes, Seven Nation Army
Beyonce, Crazy In Love
Radiohead, Kid A
Johnny Cash, Hurt
John Mayer, Daughters
OutKast, Hey Ya
Sheryl Crow, Soak Up The Sun
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Maps
Nelly, Hot In Herre
Green Day, American Idiot
Gretchen Wilson, Redneck Woman
Missy Elliot, Get Ur Freak On
Foo Fighters Best Of You
The Killers, Somebody Told Me
Gorillaz, Feel Good Inc.
Jay-Z, 90 Problems
Tim McGraw, Like You Were Dying
Strokes, Last Nite
U2, Beautiful Day
50 Cent, In Da Club
The Postal Service, Such Great Heights
To: Wyatt's Torch
Gwne Stefani, Hollanback Girl - Hickler ( my son's pick)
Foo Fighters Best Of You - (my son also liked this one for Chris)
I'm not familiar with the rest of the songs so can't say.

Holaaback Girl is not a singers song. 4 or 5 notes at best. Catchy but mindless and insipid. Come to think of it, perfect for Pickler...;-)
I love the Foo Fighters and love that album. But "Best of You" would only go to reinforce the "he just shouts" crowd about Chris. The second disc on that record is all acoustic and much more melodic. If he wanted to go with the Foo's, he should, in my opinion, choose something from that part of the record.
