for Tammy
We still have last weeks episode on our DVR, and when he was standing at the piano with Steveie Wonder, he was thanking SW, and he looked up at the camera, and I don't know, I've watched that part several times, and he just almost looks like he found the whole coaching boring, didn't need it, and was just going thru the motions.
Then one other time when the judges were critqueing him, Randy and Paula were praising him, and he just stood there and never thanked them. There was a pause with the camera on him, like they were waiting for his response and he just stood there. I was thinking at the time, say something, say something, and he didn't. And the look in his eyes was just how you discribed it, he wasn't smiling. But it was hard to tell if it was because he was thinking, their praise didn't mean anything, he expects it, or if he just doesn't smile:)
If you watch last weeks again, watch as he walks out on stage, he looks very nervous or something, not sure what, right up to the moment he starts to sing. Really strange, and something now that I have been watching for. I thought I was the only one tho, because no one on here has mentioned it till now.
But I still like his performances, except for last nights, and It think he has a good chance of winning.
Becky
So do I, but it might be too late now.
Oh, and I'm no expert either:)
Becky
LOL!--you're pretty sharp for this early hour :)
Ha! Isn't that the truth! :)
What? You mean it isn't a HUGE MARKET? /sarcasm
I agree with all you said and I said it too, weeks ago, but it wasn't taken well then either.
Hey if you have time go click on Pookies toon thread and look at his ping post, #3 and click on the New Orleans Battle song. Well worth the effort. :)
Oh, is it early already? I'm still thinking it's late...
Have been rehashing the Idol songs in my head all night.
Didn't the ladies look smashing? Incredible stylists they have. Paris' hair and little yellow dress. Mandisa's scrumptious hair and velvety black dress and sexy necklace. Katharine's midnight blue... they must've felt like divas of the world.
'Idol 4' finalist Constantine Maroulis leaves band for solo careerUPI News Service, 03/21/2006
Maroulis, 30, who was in the audience watching the current crop of "Idol" contestants compete Tuesday night, confirmed to People magazine he is no longer with the hard rock band, Pray for the Soul of Betty.
"With all of my solo projects speeding up, we just felt it was time to move on," he said.
The singer said he is currently working on his solo debut and also has a development deal with ABC for a sitcom.
LOL! Who is? We just calls 'em as we sees 'em...

Most Recent News for Chris Daughtry Fans
March 21st, 2006 - We heard something tonight that wasn't actually spoken. Though totally symbolic and never verbalized it might as well have been a loud thunderous shout from Chris Daughtry stating, "give me any genre of music you want and I will not be held back, no matter what I will rock"! Again I sat a bit concerned as the producers of American Idol forced the contestants to choose a song from a particular niche none of them would ever choose on their own. Last week Stevie Wonder this week was 50's week, as in 1950's!
Out comes Chris and what artist does he pick? Johnny Cash! What song? "Walk the Line". So here is the deal American Idol forces Chris into the 50's he says fine picks an outlaw country artist and turns the song into alternative rock and blows away the competition once again.
While it is great that he did well again and surely with out a doubt we will be hearing him again next week there is something larger at play here. Paula and Randy had their usual compliments and stated that he, "stayed true to who he is" but it was Simon Cowell who touched on the real story going on here. Simon stated, "you are the first artist we have had on American Idol who has refused to compromise".
To me that is just the tip of the iceberg. To me what we are seeing is the landscape of American Idol changed by one individual. Chris is not just a singer, he is a performer and an writer and he is using both to his advantage. Creating new versions of older songs or songs out side of his realm. Where do you think the music to Chris' version of "Walk the Line" came from? I'll tell you where, he wrote it, created it and gave it to the band to play. In effect we are watching Chris Daughtry rewrite the rules of American Idol. You are seeing the future of the show as some this year but the majority in the future will follow this formula and change music to make it fit who they are. If you missed tonight's episode I think it is fair to say you missed a tiny bit of TV history. See if a friend taped it or download the song, I am sure it will be on LimeWire.com in no time at all.
That's interesting. I didn't think he was the worst. My bottom three would have been Lisa, Bucky, and Kevin (Kevin wasn't that bad, he's just there on principle).
LOL! That's Lt. Dan for sure.
You may be right!
Chris' song choice was brilliant and timely, with Walk the Line being so hot lately, with the movie and all.
He does have the rebel spirit of Johnny Cash!
I believe the producers want him to win.
Hardly anyone will be disappointed if he does.
Last night, the three performances we replayed several times were Mandesa, Taylor, and Eliot.
For those of us who did Junior High in the '50s, it seemed that Taylor captured it. The music was fun, it was playful, and it made you want to dance around and scream out the words to the song. He owns the stage like Mick Jagger or Tina Turner do. There's nothing wrong with his singing; it's energetic. I'd go to Las Vegas just to watch him perform, if that's where he ends up. He's an original, who found and developed his skill.
Mandesa got the blues down. Watch or listen to the performances of Etta James, early Tina Turner, etc. Mandesa might be better. She might almost be better off getting on with her career.
Elliot. He's talented, he's confident, and he's respectful of this opportunity. I like his growth. I wish he would do some Freddie Cannon, to portray a little more youthful fun.
You know who put me in the time machine? Paris. The dress, the look, the sound, the moves. Go to the R&R Hall of Fame; Paris had that 50s look and style, magnificently.
I LOVE what Barry Manilow did to save the show. Last week was a disaster; not everyone can do Stevie Wonder justice. Barry Manilow taught them (and the audience) that music involves communication, sincerity, talent and fun.
Ahhhhh....just like the good ol' days. <^..^>
Oh...and PS I like Kellie Pickler. She has been given the opportunity of a lifetime, and seems to be respecting, learning from, and enjoying it.
I love all your comments -- especially this one.
"Respectful of this opportunity" -- that's Elliott in a nutshell.
I don't think he could fake anything if his life depended on it, he seems that sincere. When he smiles, he means it.
HEY!!!
You said it!
I just am honoring you!
Anyone hear the "Walk the Line" sung by Live? I think Chris got his version from that.
Honestly, unless you were born in the 40s, most of those songs sung last night were going to be unfamilar. In Elliott's case he likes the older established guys rather than new stuff. Who hasn't heard of Stevie Wonder or Al Jarreau? You might not know all of their songs but these guys are real heavyweights. It's what he does, much like Chris insisting on turning everything into a rock song.
In the end if Elliott doesn't go down in history being compared musically to Clay Aiken I'm sure he won't mind.
