I don't get to watch Survivor this season and participate in the fun thread. :( However, i would like to state that I am a spicy golden girl. :):)
I tried to post a link..it didn't take..I'm off to church..perghaps someone else can try for the group.
Re #282..meant to include you also...and BTW, g'mornin..
Late getting in but good golly molly what were those older women thinking? Oh, they weren't. Sure, let's kick off the only person who can get us through the first half of the game and lets keep that ninny who's afraid of leaves. They deserve to go 1, 2, 3, 4 with the possible exception of the bozo who decided to quit smoking the day the boat dropped him on the island. Mark better have some good story writers or this will be another Africa.
A Survivor Figures Out What to Do With Himself
It's a good article, worth reading.
It was in his exchanges with Jonny Fairplay and Ostin that Mr. Probst's new steeliness came into view.snip
Those episodes seemed to kick off a new era. Mr. Probst isn't just a host anymore he has become the game's guardian. He has no patience for people who, as they say in England, lower the tone. He still roots for players and is excited by a good challenge, but as often as not he conducts tribal councils in the key of I've Had It With You People.
Let's try this:

That's a link to the Slimes' Arts page. Scroll down to the bottom to the "television" section and you'll see the Survivor story--assuming the link stays good.
24's resident assassin, Mia Kirshner, will be taking on another dark, twisted role: The Black Dahlia.
Mia Kirshner portrays [Elizabeth] Short in Brian De Palma's film "The Black Dahlia," based on a novel by James Ellroy ("L.A. Confidential").

LET THE GAMES BEGIN
The sixteen contestants of Survivor; Panama Exile Island meet Jeff Probst on Exile Island where they realize that they have been divided into four tribes. The Older Women, Older Men, Younger Women and Younger Men. One of the younger men nickname the womens tribes as the Golden Girls and the Spice Girls. Jeff then explains that every few days, immediately after the Reward Challenge, at least one Survivor will be banished to the Island and forced to live on their own away from their tribe until theyre called to the next Immunity Challenge.
Jeff then explains the first Reward Challenge which will take place immediately. The four tribes will each select one player to participate. That player will race to the other end of the island where they will find a pile of skulls. The players must smash open the skulls on the rocks where they will find a cloth wrapped bundle. Open the bundle and inside you will find either a stone, which means that you must smash another skull, or you will find an amulet. If you find an amulet, race back to the starting line. The first three players to find an amulet will win the Reward Challenge for their tribe and a flint to make fire. The last player will loose the RC for their tribe and that tribe must select one player to remain behind on Exile Island.
Jeff says go and Terry, Austin, Ruth Marie and Danielle race out of sight. After many smashed skulls, Terry returns first, followed by Austin and Ruth Marie. Danielle returns empty-handed, leaving the Younger Women without flint for fire and with having to decide which of them will stay behind on Exile Island. Danielle volunteers, saying she lost the challenge so she should stay behind, but Courtney suggests that they should play rock-paper-scissors instead. By this process of elimination, Misty is selected.
Before the tribes leave for their beaches, Jeff reveals another secret of Exile Island, "Hidden somewhere on Exile Island is an Immunity Idol. Find it, and you will be safe from Tribal Council!" He further announces that the Immunity Idol can be used anytime up to the final four Tribal Council and that the player will not have to present the Immunity Idol until after the vote. In other words, if the players that finds the Immunity Idol, receives the most votes at Tribal Council, that player can then present the Idol and the player who received the next highest number of votes will then be that nights bootee. Additionally, from time to time, Jeff will give clues as to the whereabouts of the Immunity Idol.
After the tribes leave Exile Island, Jeff then informs Misty that she has a bucket of water (which will do her no good since she doesnt have fire and the water needs to be boiled), a pot for boiling the water, and a machete. He also informs her that he has already given her the first clue to the whereabouts of the Immunity Idol. Having given here this final cryptic quote, he leaves her all alone on the Island.
Back from commercial break, we visit the Older Women (the Golden Girls) on their island where, thanks to Tinas LumberJill skills, they are quickly setting up camp, locating their water source and starting a fire. Cirie however confesses that she is NOT an outdoors type person and that she is in fact afraid of leaves! Tina cannot believe this as she comments Did anybody tell here what show shes on? Leaves are the least of your problems, honey!
Meanwhile over at the Younger Mens camp the guys are too busy playing coconut baseball to be bothered by silly things like fire, a shelter, food or water. As the sun starts to set, the boys realize that they need to build a shelter and start a fire before darkness falls. Aras tries to start a fire by meditating it into existence. After seeing how pathetic their attempt at a shelter is, Austin gives his tribe its nickname by commenting that "We don't have a clue what we are doing." Hence the name Team Clueless.
Over on the Younger Womens island, the Spice Girls are wandering about aimlessly trying to locate a proper camp site. After the trio rejects yet another potential site, Sally gets frustrated telling the rest If you see a spot and you like it, dont even look anymore. With the sun setting on the horizon, Courtney finds a dead turtle lying in the sand, and proceeds to hold a eulogy for the poor, unfortunate creature. Danielle and Sally can only roll their eyes.
Finally, we visit the Older Mens island. (If anybody can come up with a better nickname than Team Viagra, Im open to suggestions.) They already have a fire going and are gathering supplies for building a shelter. Dan and Terry do some male bonding, telling each other their occupations, forming an alliance and agreeing to never lie to each other. Bruce practices his karate chops on some dead driftwood while Shane worries that his attempts to go cold turkey from a three-pack-a-day cigarette habit may get the best of him.
Meanwhile, Misty is having a rough time of it on Exile Island. Night falls, it starts raining and she has no shelter, no fire, no food and no water. The next morning after a breakfast of worms. She decides that when she next sees her tribemates I will trick them into thinking that I found the Immunity Idol"
The tribes are called to the first Immunity Challenge. Jeff explains that they will begin on floating platforms in the ocean, climb up and over a wall, dive into the ocean, and swim to their raft. The last person over the wall will dive down and unclip a rope releasing the raft. Each tribe will then paddle the raft to shore, secure the raft to a post and then race to solve a ring puzzle. The also have the option of digging down in the sand to locate an answer key to the puzzle. Once the ring is released, the tribe uses it to toss at a grappling hook, pulling the hook will unfurl their tribal flag. The first three tribes to raise their flags win Immunity. The last will vote out one member tonight at Tribal Council.
Jeff has them swim out to the platforms, has them get ready and says go. The Spice Girls take the early lead, arriving first at the beach. Team Viagra almost goofs by trying to raise their rafts tethering weight off the ocean floor instead of simply unhooking it. But they soon correct this error and are the second to the beach followed by Team Clueless and finally the Golden Girls. All four tribes devote two members to digging in the sand, while the other two attempt to solve the ring puzzle. The Spice Girls finish first, followed by Team Viagra. Team Clueless manages to squeak out a victory over the Golden Girls, sending them to the first Tribal Council.
Back at camp, the scheming begins as the Golden girls have to decide who will be the first bootee. Tina wanders off in tears as we find out about her losing her son in a car accident just a few months ago. Meanwhile, Cirie convinces the others that Tina is the strongest amongst them and if they dont vote her out now, they might never get the chance. However, there is a hitch in this plan when Tina arrives back at camp with a huge fish. Melinda confesses There are a hundred reasons to keep Tina. She is a workhorse; she caught a fish today. I think Cirie is the weak link right now."
However, when Jeff says it time to vote, Cirie gets her wish as Tina is voted out in a 3 to 1 decision.
Now, for those who either cannot or will not view the videos on the official SeeBS website, here are the transcripts of the players comments while casting their votes as well as Tinas final comments.
Melinda (votes Tina): Tina, my vote is for you, but the only reason, it's nothing personal, is because I was merely approached by the other girls and I just felt the need to be sure that it wasn't me but it's nothing personal, I think you are fabulous.
Ruth Marie (votes Tina): Tina, you are a remarkable woman with a wonderful work ethic but Survivor has a lot more elements to it. I wish you well.
Tina (votes Cirie): Somebody has to go and I think it was the inability to swim today that was my biggest factor in potential future challenge and your fear of leaves, kinda got me, (she just trails off at this point)
Cirie (votes Tina): Uh, I learned a lot from you in three days, I wish I could learn more about you, we just didn't click.
Tinas final comments:
I definitely get the impression that she is answering some questions put to her from off camera.
That was truly a great experience. I say Im likely not going to miss sleeping on bamboo one.. more.. night. I wouldnt have changed a thing that I had done out there I enjoyed building the fire, I enjoyed building the shelter, working with the girls, and catching the fish. Working hard is what I do and I think it worked against me on this one but I would not have been able to change a thing because thats just who I am.
Actually I think I did better under duress than I thought I was going to do. When it came time to . we got dropped off on the island and we have a short amount of time to build fire, and find the water, and build shelter. I think it went better you know, we didnt even know we were going to be in a group of 4 women so, honestly, I felt I had to take the lead straight away. It wasnt... you know, I thought I was the most capable to do that. I think sleeping out was the hardest for me learning how to be outside all night and have little bugs crawling all over you all night and stuff.
I learned Im a bit of a, I dont want to say loner, but maybe perhaps around new people, who arent doing exactly what I think we should be doing in that situation is something about myself. But I wouldnt change it I couldnt change it and thats about it.
I think its the ability to do what I did. I never, myself, thought I could do as much as I did. It just felt to me like we should be out cruising for food, keeping the fire going and to do that on an island where you you dont even know where youre at. You dont know if its going to rain or shine or if youre going to eat for days. I just thought I did better than I thought I was going to do. I was just with the wrong girls.
I think the girls made a huge mistake voting me out, but thats my opinion. Obviously they didnt think so. But I was providing the food and you know, helped design the shelter, got the water, built the fire . It was interesting how they all called me the strongest person in the tribe but yet their social aspects ruled out over surviving..on..an. island
I dont know if I was unprepared but its new having a tribe of 4 women. That was new and I certainly dont think I was being disrespectful to anybody out there. I may have been more on the work side, but I just felt frantic every day to continue... I mean, its only a couple of days but I knew it was going to get worse. I just wanted to work and make it good. Id have been happy if theyd have worked harder at the beginning of the day so we could all sit down and talk. But it didnt happen, but I just kept being the work mule .
I mean, it is just a little bit, but its not my ability to work with other people but my ability to work with the 3 other women that I was with. Our thought of what should happen on an island in a survival situation were very different. Theres was more social, mine was more survivor-ish.
Well, there you have it! The first episode of Survivor; Panama Exile Island is over and in the can so to speak. Stay tuned for even more ineptitude, incompetence and silliness as the castaways are dwindled down one by one.

How about "Team Geezer?"
Did anyone else notice, at the start of the immunity challenge, when they had to climb UP the barrier before diving into the ocean..there was a flash of Cirie on top..and it looked like she almost was about to fall BACKWARDS onto the raft...Scary...That would have been a serious hurt..at the least...
Is anyone else surprised that with the divisions into tribes based on sex and age..that both the first two challenges were very physical tasks?
And today's BIG Question..Is it possible, if not likely, that a tribe goes EXTINCT ( think about it...a new concept in Survivor, eh?) before the merge?
I'm surprised there has been very little speculation about the whereabouts of the idol. I had a few theories in post 262. See you all later this week, thanks for the recap Cuz. Team Geezer sounds good to me. Maybe Team Dude for the younger ones.
sorry that was post 267.
The Steelers won the Super Bowl. Go Steelers! Ha ha And, now back to Survivor. Sorry to see Tina getting booted off. IMHO, it should have been Cirie. What is she doing on this show if she is afraid of leaves and what's under them? How will she react is she has to eat what's under those leaaes, if she holds on that long.
The speculation that I have seen concerning the hidden idol is that it is in the water bucket back on exile island.
That was the first thing I thought of but somehow it seems too obvious. I think its more likely that they have to use the pot to carry the water to the skull, walk up the steps in the back and pour in in something like a bamboo pipe that will release it after all the water is hauled. Or like I said in my post it may be in the handle of the machete. It has to be very small as these people are being dropped off with nothing and have to return to camp, they have to be able to hide it on their bodies until they get back to camp.
Help, my vcr malfunctioned and I missed the first episode. Usually CBS re-broadcasts it but I can't find it listed in the tv guide. Does anyone know if it will be shown again and when? Please, no lectures about tivo, I know it is the best thing since sliced bread, but with my budget I am lucky to afford sliced bread!

Thanks so much for the reminder. I read tvw/op to catch up on West Wing, it is hilarious, but thought their reviews of Survivor were usually too snarky, but beggars can't be choosers (my grandmother's favorite saying). Also, thanks for running the forum, I appreicate it. Take care,

The title of tonights episode is Breakdown!
The official SeeBS website offers up the following little morsels of information:
When four tribes become two, the last survivor fears the worst, but then is surprised when Jeff reveals a twist in the game. As promised in the TV Guide preview, the four tribes become two in a school yard type pick-em. And since there are an odd number of survivors left, one will be the last. Jeff then informs that person that he/she will get to choose which new tribe he/she will be on. Really big twist huh? But wait! Theres more! Since whichever tribe you pick will have one extra player, you will also pick one player to not only sit out the Reward Challenge, but that player will immediately be whisked off to Exile Island, Ah HA! That makes your decision even more tricky!
One Survivor makes a major mistake and leaves the tribe disappointed, hungry, and still desperately trying to get food. Since this is the second episode and the Reward during the second episode is typically fishing supplies, its a safe bet that one Survivor pulls a BIG bone-headed move to lose the Reward Challenge for his/her tribe.
As the Survivors get to know each other they waste no time forming alliances, leaving two feeling vulnerable and two in a position of power. Without giving away too much about the new tribes make-up too soon, Im gonna say that the two feeling vulnerable are Austin and Nick, while the two in a position of power are Terry and Dan.
One Survivor struggles to adjust to life on the island. Will he overcome the pressure or choose to leave the island forever? Will Shanes attempts to go cold turkey from a 3-pack-a-day cigarette habit prove to much for him? Will he pull an Osten and call it quits? Will his new tribe even go to Tribal Council so Jeff can belittle Shane in front of the cameras? If his new tribe goes to Tribal Council, will his tribe honor his wishes and let him quit, or will they boot a weaker player and try to keep the tribe strong? Is this clue even referring about Shane in the first place, or is it just wishful thinking on my part? Tune in tonight for these answers and more.
From the vidcaps of the previews, we can pretty much tell who is going to be on which tribe after the pick-em is all over. (That is, unless the producers threw in a few fake vidcaps just to mess with our heads!) The new Tribes are:
The Casaya Tribe (Purple buffs): Aras, Bobby, Cirie, Courtney, Danielle, Melinda and Shane.
The La Mina Tribe (Orange buffs) Austin, Bruce, Dan, Misty, Nick, Ruth Marie, Sally and Terry.
Again, the vidcaps show all players competing in the Reward Challenge except one. And that player is Bruce. I think that Bruce is the last player in the pick-em and while he chooses to remain with the La Mina Tribe, I also think he picks himself to be banished to Exile Island. Well, guess you could say that was mighty neighborly of him.
It appears as if the Reward Challenge is an obstacle course type race with one of the objectives to collect carved wooden snakes along the way. The vid caps show the tribes pretty even throughout most of the race. But an exhausted looking Aras and a sad looking Courtney lead me to believe that La Mina wins the Challenge.
We are also treated to vidcaps of an energetic looking Bruce, practicing his karate moves on a beach that looks quite a bit like an Exile Island beach.
The Immunity Challenge appears to be one described during yet another TV Guide interview with the production crew. During that interview Zach Jensen, the Production Art Director described the boats and the challenge as such: "These boats are actually part of a challenge. They've got a glass bottom, we made these boats in here, some of the lads knocked [them] together. So yeah, it's to do with the searching for skeletons, in the, in coffins underwater, and transporting them to their new home in tombs on the, on the island." So there you have it, setting out to sea in glass bottom boats, each tribe must locate coffins underwater, and drag the contents (or maybe even the coffins) to the surface. Once they have collected all the skeletons they make for shore where they must entomb them in their final resting place. My guess, (since they only show Terry dragging a coffin underwater) is that La Mina wins the Immunity Challenge, sending Casaya to Tribal Council.
Now the question remains, will Shane quit or will his tribe boot a weaker player?
Well, let me tell you, I used to have a 2-pack-a-day habit that went to a 3-pack-a-day habit on the weekends. And this went on for 23 years. Then one day the wife and I both decided to quit. Now granted it wasnt completely cold-turkey. She lasted 3 days on the patch and I lasted 4. Then we threw the patches away and that was 9 years ago and we havent had a smoke ever since. So believe me, If I can do it, Shane is blowing so much hot air. When push comes to shove (mainly, Jeff shoving him off the Island), he wont quit. So my pick for tonights bootee is Melinda.
Well, there you have it:
Reward Challenge Winner: The La Mina Tribe
Banished to Exile Island: Bruce
Reward Challenge Winner: The La Mina Tribe
Tonights Bootee: Melinda
