Just saw tonight's episode where you had Dr. Kovac, the Catholic from Serbia who lost his wife and 2 children in the Kosovo war, and his babe, another doctor Abby Lockhart, both have been living together, she became pregnant and he told her that it's her body and that it's up to her as to whether or not to have an abortion. There goes the Rights of the baby to be born and fathers' rights. At the end of the show Abby decided to keep the baby, her choice not his.
Then in the ER, a 15-year-old girl came in. Turns out she was raped after ingesting a date-rape drug. The parents, who happen to be Christians, find out and want her to keep the baby.
Neela, a Hindu, is the resident physician who initially treated the girl. She had a discussion with Dr. Kovac regarding his Catholicism which she feels is blocking his judgment of being a doctor. Kovach told her that his patients and profession comes before his religion.
The girl doesn't want the baby and the good Catholic Doctor advises her, while her parents are out of the room, of a procedure, a sneaky procedure, where he inserts a laminaria , a device that dilates the cervical os and will enable the baby to make its way out so she can lie and deceive her parents since it will look like a miscarriage.
While explaining the procedure to the girl he states that she may experience some minor cramping. Nothing was said about the side effects, such as: depression, excessive bleeding, or a possibility of having breast cancer 10 yrs. down the road. There was no talk about having the baby and putting it up for adoption.

the good Catholic Doctor That sure ain't Kovac.
When he was facing execution in Africa, Kovac remembered he was a Catholic. Other than that, the faith he was raised in plays a miniscule role in his life.

Or maybe I should have posted this other one by Asay, as it concerns parental notification...

They make him into a Catholic basically so they can discredit any specific Catholic, or even Christian doctrine as unreasonable.

Anything on your TV is going to be crap. It's been 4 great years since we got rid of our TV and that was one of the best things we ever did. If you want to see Catholics on TV in a positive role EWTN is your only hope

Have any women played the stereotypical "pro-lifer who voices minor objections but then does the pro-choice thing anyway" role?
The only show I even consider watching regularly is "House." The episode with a nun who had a abortion in her past treated the subject far better than this ER episode.
The cynical, very-damaged House brought to light a contempt for the hippocratic oath, deriding its prohibition of seducing patients in the same sentence as he sneers at its prohibition of abortions. Such honest depravity from an anti-hero is refreshing to see amid all the moralizing depictions of superheroic pro-choice doctors.

Neither the father nor the girl's parents have any rights when it comes to abortion. The parents do need to be informed and the father doesn't get to choose whether he wants to be a father or not.

I gave up on ER a long time ago. A once-entertaining show sacrificed on the altar of PC. Plus, it's on opposite MXC - now that's must-see TV!

Kovach told her that his patients and profession comes before his religion. As with all liberals, religion is something they can put on and take off as they want it.

i thought the same thing. then was floored when the teen asked him if he was a christian and he said YES!! what was up with that?
i noticed the subtle way he justified going against God's word in jeremiah about how he formed us and knew us before we were born, he then quoted genesis to justify that a baby is not a alive until it breathes its first breath.
my other question, one of my all time questions regarding this whole "mother's choice thing" is why doesn't the dad have any say? if the mother chooses to have the baby (whether he wanted it or not) she can force him through the courts to pay child support for the next 18 years. if he wants to raise the child, she can decide to kill it and he has no say? what about the father's rights?????
stepping off my soapbox now...

"why doesn't the dad have any say?"
Because she was raped... and possibly gang raped. I doubt the father was going to be coming forward and if found would not likely have been a good candidate for raising the child.

Just another reason I don't get cable in my house. Where I live, I get one, maybe two channels - some televangelist network (fuzzy) and sometimes QVC (if the stars are aligned and the weather is JUST right). So, no TV for me. I don't miss it at all.
