Congrats to all new members who joined this week!

GOC sounds like a good name

I like it, fits me to a T. Apologies to those who either aren't, or don't want to admit to it.

Your kids been talking to mine ????????? LOL

When they really try to rub it in, I play it back on them, and they usually shut up. They refuse to play any trivia game with me.

I started to put together the graphical instructions, but I made a mess of them (what else is new?) Best suggestion I have is to copy the client into a new directory (just the FAH504-console.exe file) off of the C:\ (such as Folding @ Home) and run the client from a cmd screen (start->run, cmd, cd c:\folding @ home, FAH504-console.exe,) and re-inputting your name and team number. If you install it as a service, next time you restart windows, it will automatically load the software in the background.

Or get the graphical client, but I don't like it because it doesn't fold as fast (but makes pretty pictures...)

Sorry. :( Getting the old workunit to work is a maybe at best, and it'd be better if you're folding during that time instead of messing around.

I'd just like to point out that the FAHstats website still has much better team member info than the Extremeoverclocker web site, even in the face of those who proclaimed that the EOC site was vastly superior.

For a good reading on the current situation [at least for a couple of days until EOC gets some detailed history built up] go to:

fahstats

and poke around.

The team is still crusin' though I'll point out that we are passing through the burnt-out remainders of former supernovas. Lots of teams seem to have had many active members, but interest waned and only a few continue to try to move the old hulks.

Grumpy Old Conservatives is a terrible name, certainly has nothing to do with Ronald Reagan: probably the most genial President we've ever had.

In fact, grumpy conservative is an unfavorable stereotype and a really terrible idea.

The first time you run the console use the -local and -config switches. Then after that, only the -local is required.

Anyone asking about why Stanford might need help with CPU time should explain where they can get 203 Teraflops for nothing.

Client statistics by OS

OS Type Current TFLOPS Active CPUs Total CPUs
Windows 173 182011 1299961
Mac OS X 6 10576 82419
Linux 24 19716 162075
Other 0 0 0
Total 203 212303 1544455

Total number of donators = 521319

Active CPUS have returned WUs within 50 days.
TFLOPS is actual flops from MD, not the peak values from CPU specs.

Please accept my apologies for trying to inject a little humor into what otherwise has been an otherwise miserable thread. I will use the <-sarcasm > tags next time.

That is my suggestion as well. On the plus side, once you put your username and team name in again, it will download the same work unit you started on before and start on it again. Definitely say YES when asked if you want to run it as a service - that way, if your power goes on the fritz again or you shut down your machine for any reason, it'll automatically restart itself with no intervention from you - in fact, you won't even know it's there, since it won't show the DOS window the next time it starts up.

In fact, grumpy conservative is an unfavorable stereotype and a really terrible idea. That's why I've conceded, and stated in another post, that I support whatever the consensus is. It was put forth in a joking context, and was certainly never meant to be a serious contender for the final name. The only thing that is certain right now, is that in a very short time, we'll be known as something besides the Free Republic Folders... which, I might remind you, also is an unfavorable stereotype on the home boards, of at least two of our competitors... :)

Chaking it up to you being a grumpy old conservative. :) (I still like the Reagan idea. Fold one for the Gipper!)

As I understand it, if I run the graphical version, but I close the window that does all the drawing, it runs as fast as the command line version. Is that true?

Actually, I have a long history of being cranky. Somehow that feels more abrasive than mere grumpiness.

Interesting...

Looking at the average performance of the computers running the three operating systems shows the following relative performances:

Apple OSX = 1

Windoze = 1.67

Linux = 2.15

Donning fire suit for the potential ensuing firefight.
