But a poster I've never seen around before comes on here and leads many to believe that Jim and FR are sponsoring this... Who was led to believe that?
To: pbrown
I am ranked 63 right now, but I've been getting smaller point units lately, so won't be breaking any records! lol

It shows you steadily moving up, too!

WhooHoo, I'm moving up. Ya know, I have an external drive hooked up to my computer. I only use it for a couple of games and a few songs. I wonder if all that unused space is being utilized?

It seems to me that the whole thing could be settled by renaming the team "Freeper Folders" or some such. This avoids any (hypothetical) confusion that might potentially lead someone to believe that the Folding@home team is sponsored by FreeRepublic.com, but it also allows freepers to maintain their identities as such. We are freepers who have, of our own accord, come together to participate in this research effort.
Any objections?
To: Mo1
I don't understand - are you saying that you were confused about whether this was officially sanctioned?
To: pbrown
Ha! It looks like a problem with the rankings. It is showing inaccurate numbers for a whole slew of people! So when that updates or whatever, I won't be on there.
The fantasy was nice while it lasted! LOL

Sounds good to me.
"Freeper Folders" doesn't portray Free Republic as sanctioning or endorsing the project - just that its members do.
Amazing how quickly this disintegrated. I wish this kind of thing would happen more often on the REAL fluff threads.

So I signed up as twinzmommy :)

I knew it sounded to good to be true concerning me. Oh well, I'll just keep folding. The payoff is that it will help people.

Great - that's one vote ;)

I see it as a complete waste of time and money. As opposed to idling your CPU with absolutely nothing whatsoever to show for the effort? Fine. Don't participate.
The last thing I want to do is donate free CPU cycles to some liberal scumbag college that is also a waste of time and money.
Say what you want about Stanford, but their science departments do produce interesting results from time to time...

Freeper Folders is good. FR Folders is good. Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is good [if it's not taken]

Exactly. Man, I should have signed up as "The Mediator" or something :)
To: Senator Bedfellow; Mo1
It *could* have that appearance if you didn't read the previous threads. And I agree, it will be remedied with a name and logo change.
If you read the threads you will see there was no plan to deceive. Just good, clean competition.
Plenty of fun graphics to choose from out there!

I like "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" if the Reagan tribute is not going to happen.
