New thread for this week.
Congrats to all new members who joined this week!
We've made excellent progress so far and have smoked the DUmmies and Kossacks. Let's keep folding!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think Jim wouldn't want this publicity.
But I don't think we can change the team name and keep the current points, and I don't think we should continue to contribute to an FR team against Jim's wishes.
I've already "stopped" all of my current folding till I find out if we can change the name midstream or not. If not, I'll let the current work units continue until they finish so as not to cheat the project.
y'know... I really took offense at that remark about the "nigerian widow"..
I don't know what in the hell I want to do right now. I think I'm going to get drunk, and sleep on it.
Wake me up when we reach a consensus... :)
Groan ... just completed my first and am into the 2nd with AltiVec boost finally kicking in.
I did Seti for years - was in the top 2% - Oh well - I think it would be good to keep the team together - it's fun when that trend line is around 45 degrees ":^)
If permitted, I think that's the best way to go.
"Change the name; stay in General/Chat...
If permitted, I think that's the best way to go."
Agreed -
You have valid points. Mainly, we need to address 3 problems:
(1) Whether to stay together at all.
(2) Finding a new team, or changing the team name to something that isn't associated with FR.
(3) Finding a way to chat about this that does not go against JR's wishes (which might entail moving this to another website).
I'm willing to leave it up to texas booster.
Another idea would be to move over to Papa Smurf's trucking forum.
Yeah, we wouldn't be making it part of official FR activity. I've said enough and ruined this enough--I'm keeping my mouth shut from now on.
It's JR's forum, and if he doesn't want to be a part of this, so be it. Obviously, I'd do different, but it's not my call, so there we are. I concur with the suggestions so far - change the team name, bring everyone back, and let them decide to either stick with it or opt out. Personally, I'm on board for the duration, but whoever controls the team can accomplish what needs doing here:

Regarding #1 and #2, I don't think that's a question. The team should be renamed and those of us who have been attracted to this altruistic endeavor should continue.
I hope these discussion would be permitted to stay. While it is not political, other non-political talk about horses and knitting and other things survive in chat just fine. I don't see any big problem with being relegated to chat.
I am too. And it's good to see that we can apparently change the name.
But I'm still not cranking up my boxes to donate to a team name that is going away. I had JUST uploaded 600pts probably 5 minutes before this happened.
Kick in the nuts is an understatement.
"It looks like we added new folding members as follows:"
I posted a summary of FAH in my state location page (Texas FReepers)
Maybe some of them joined today. (I don't know how it happened, but my single post wound up cloning itself 3 more times - maybe it was the folding client, heheh.)
If any Texas FReepers joined today, let's hear from you.
Everyone should post a notice in their state location page - pick up a few more CPUs.
Heheh - I'll bet Texas can add the most computers - watch our dust as we blaze the trail, LOL.
Team benefit is not lost if the team is only renamed (but under the same team number). And the fold you just finished was, after all, finished. The project still benefits too.
Gentlemen:
In light of the recent proclamation from Mr. Robinson I think we have but 3 choices...
1. Stay and fold under the radar.
2. Quit folding and drop the subject.
3. Move our efforts somewhere else/start a team of a different name.
Perhaps, even, someone might get Stanford to understand our position and allow the transfer of points/Name Change of our points. After all, it would be a shame for them to lose more than 300 cpu's, would it not?
I'm pretty demoralized right now.
:O(

I agree, and I think the name can be changed, where it wouldn't affect the members.. after all, we signed up by number, the name is just a display.
I say forget Jim, and his snap judgement on this, we just keep on folding, and do our best not to piss off any of the thread wardens, that seem to abound
We've got a damned good team, and we're on a roll. I'd hate to stomp on the brakes, just because one old "fuddy duddy" thinks that distributed computing is some commie university plot to take over your computers. We're adults, we can read, and reason, and we know better.
Course #1 is the obvious choice. Rename team 36120 and keep working.
Course #3 is a fallback, and course #2, forgive me, would be just plain stupid.
Yup. You're right. Got worked up over nothing. Guess I'll start the clients up again.
To that end, Seamoth, I have a forum that I haven't even looked at in a year. You all can have it.
:O)

Anyway, don't think of it as contributing to a defunct team, think of it as contributing to a team that doesn't have a name yet...
Concur!
